Painted wood grain cars are not that rare. At a show I go to every year in Nor Cal there are a few late 40's early Chevy wagons that have this done and are quite elaborate.

painted or decaled wood grain interiors (Dash/trim/etc) on 40's cars was they way they came from the factory.

From about 1952 on most wood look trimmed wagons were decals because paint was expensive and didn't last as long.

One of the cars up for fatured this month, killerhhr, has some sweet painted wood.
That looks alot better. But I still would like to see the moulding "raised" using a plastic "faux wood".

On the retro Buick HHR, after looking at the site about it, I like the wheel treatment and the wood grain paint a lot, along with the dual exhaust look. I think the minimalist Buick style wood trim is better than the more commonly seen wood treatment.
