General HHR Discuss anything related to the Chevy HHR that doesnt seem to fit into the more specific categories below.

What kind of car did you give up for your HHR?

Didn't give up anything, just another addition to the fleet. Although I would like to have my police package Lumina back, it was a tank but fun to drive.

I "retired" a 2000 Dodge ram 1500 Ext Cab (my son's ride) and My wonderful(sniff sniff) 2004 Avalanche 5.3 (non-cladded) Black, Predator tuned, 17x9 Black Helo Wheeled, 2000 watt (RMS) sound system, aftermarket hooded, custom grilled, rear spoiler equiped (yes, and very tastefully done I might add), rear lowered (by 3 in )Rear air bagged (inside the springs) I still grieve. The truck was placed on a chassis dyno, and produced 345 hp to the ground. Being 3 tons, it wouldn't smoke the tires, but it ran the 1/4 mile in 14.05 sec @ 98.69 mph. However 12 mpg would not feed the bulldog, so the H was the only non-chick car I found I could live with that got decent milage.

I resurrected this thread mainly to affirm that my previous claim about the HHR SS was not attributed to "buyer's euphoria". In a previous post some time ago when I was a new owner, I stated that I traded in my Cadillac CTS for an HHR SS and inferred that the driving experience was more rewarding with the HHR SS than the Caddy. Now that I am 2 years into the ownership experience, this post is to affirm that I have no regrets and would rather be driving my HHR SS than my Cadillac CTS, although I loved the CTS for what it was.

Any regrets or celebrations of this nature from the group?

Sadly, I very much miss my BMW Z3. And though I paid a good deal more for the HHR than I received (At purchase time the 06 HHR was worth about 2x what the 97 BMWZ3 was), I have seen the resale value of the HHR plummet to half what the 97 Z3 is worth today. I am now driving a vehicle that has a significant change in value based on how new the tires are and whether the fuel tank is full at sale time.

Oh well.....i dont dislike the HHR. I guess when you buy a chevy you should expect a chevy.

no regrets

Girlfriend and I each bought used 2LTs heavily factory optioned with manual transmissions. I did aftermarket modifications, she kept hers essentially stock. Items needed to be fixed on each vehicle upon purchase. I have had one warranty-covered repair since then, hers is running fine. I also own an S2000, and find myself using it rarely due to how versatile the HHR is. HHR is less noisy, more stable for long distances and allows more luggage, and hauls my bicycles. She uses her HHR less (one reason for no modifications except the dual horns I bought her for safety). She has a BMW Z4 which she drives most of the time. However, the HHR hauls her dogs and also was helpful in cleaning stuff when she had to empty her mother's apartment. And we both love the heated leather seats! These were bought during and just after the bottom of the recession. We took advantage of the low resale value and traveled to get exactly the vehicles we wanted, down to the color.

06 Chevy Cobalt SS/SC with a bunch of mods on it.... luckily i was able to put it back to stock within a week, sold most of the parts to build a nice down payment and swapped over a couple goodies while i had both vehicles for the weekend.

Gave my very dependable, reliable 2003 Santa Fe to the step-daughter, bought the '08 2LT with no trade. While the Santa Fe had it's own little quirks, the HHR has me feeling less than confident what with little things like a one-time (so far) flooded right front floor, drivers door electric lock not always working, and blinker switch not always cancelling.

The HHR is a FUN vehicle to drive, definitely peppier, quicker, much more stable. Hopefully once I fix the few issues I've had (well documented by others on this forum) It will grow on me even more. :-)
