What is the little round light for above the rearview mirror

What is the little round light for above the rearview mirror, what does it do and what is for. Can't find it in the manual.

The waterfall illuminating light, it lights up the HVAC and the radio , sort of!

Some call it a mood light!

I had thought the light was to tell me that the headlights were on. but it would come on occasionally during the day time. BUT I think the headlights can come on in low day light conditions.
