It has actually been a pretty good car for the cost. 6 years, no major problems, still looks good.

Maybe I just misunderstood... if the rear hatch popped open a bit, it would be easier to open with arthritis?
My van has a pop open feature, but you still have to lift it.
The amount of pressure to open the HHR is less than the amount of lifting to get the door up.
That`s why I asked, why?
What`s wrong about asking a question on a site designed for conversation? If no one has an opposing view, or question how is it a conversation?

Once you release the catch on the hatch back, and just give it a little lift, ours pretty much goes up by itself, just like the Saturn does, so you really don't use any effort lifting. I was not talking about the lifting motion, I was talking about releasing the catch. It's not a big deal, but when the question comes up on what I would like to see, that's one of them.
I also think it would look cute if those two little panels of the back window could be opened, or if they had little panels like that on the front windows, which would be nice for letting in fresh air, like the old cars did, but I'm sure we're getting into talking more expense there. Would make it look more old fashioned though.

The pressure required to open my hatch is so slight, I almost open it wiping around the license plates lights while washing.
I can`t imagine how a person could operate a veh. safely, that can`t exert the amount of energy involved in such a simple task.
To my knowledge, no car today has an automatic hood opener. How do you check under the hood, even for oil or other fluids?

I am not talking about what it takes to lift the hatch
up, I am talking about the pressure to squeeze the latch to release the tailgate in order to open it. This has nothing to do with lifting up the tailgate.
What you are describing would be like the difference between simply opening our front door, which takes nothing, no effort at all, to the difficulty we are having squeezing our door latch, since we have the kind which is just a handle and on which you must put your thumb and push down a latch, which happens to have become very hard to push over the years.
Where car is concerned, I have already clearly stated above that the hatch
lifts up easily with very little effort.
I am not stating that we are physically and totally incapable of funtioning, because if we could not opperate a vehicle safely, we would not be driving and putting the lives of others, as well as ourselves at risk. It was my belief that this was a thread in which folks could post their ideas on things they would enjoy seeing added to the HHR, and I was simply stating that we would like to see them add the option of being able to open the hatch either with a latch from inside the car, and from the remote. Lots of cars have them, so what is so wrong suggesting it for the HHR?

Our '98 mustang had a hatch/trunk release in the car and on the remote entry pad. The hatch/trunk release was in the glove box (not the best of places...but was still there). And those are not "luxury".
It's those little things in life that are so nice to have

Yep, we're into trains, big and small. My husband still has the Lionel train he got as a kid. If we set it up, it would take up an entire room, and then some. It's really neat with the cattle cars and log loader, coal loader and a bunch of different stuff, all in working order. He got our daughter her own Lionel when she was eight, and I've got a big collection of HO scale. It's a lot of fun, and I set mine up at Christmas time. Trying to figure out how to suspend a track from the ceiling, to go around our family room living room. If we had a basement out here we'd have a permanent layout.
