What sold you on the HHR?
I had to replace my '99 Suburban with something reliable, that got way better gas milage and was inexpensive....
I needed to be able to carry tools and supplies. Was looking at small pick up trucks, but also need to be able to carry 4 people in reasonable comfort. I had always liked the looks of the HHR. So after finding out that there was enough room to carry what I needed, good seating for 4 when needed, and finding a used low milage '06 that looked brand new, and in my price range.....
Well I was sold.

Gas milage, looks, hauling capability, I use to travel a LOT for a living and the HHR had all the hauling capability I needed to take everything I needed to live with for 13 weeks or so, and not use all my money getting there! And I just fell in LOVE with it. It's a little over a year old with just shy of 23K miles! STILL love it though I'm not traveling anymore have a job here at home now!

Looks, gas mileage, comfort and it suits our needs. We are retired and wanted something we could do some travel in without spending too much on gas and do it in comfort. I have an '05 Tahoe for when we need to pull a trailer and wanted something economical, comfortable and stylish. WE HAVE A WINNER.
TURBO BaBy!
And that I needed something more family-oriented to replace my Firebird. Requirements were:
Stick
Stationwagon
30 mpg hwy
fun to drive
looks don't blend in.
HHR was really my only choice...

I bought my 2008 HHR SS because of the gas mileage, power and it was a little different than all the other cars out there. I didn't like the HHR at first but the wife made me test drive one and I changed my mind.
I wish I could have found a half panel SS somewhere in Ontario but there weren't any and I couldn't wait that long for a 2009 as orders were being delayed at that time.

and a 2 hour conversation with me
Went for a Cobalt, left with an HHR.
Never noticed them until I saw one when I was researching the Cobalt SS.
My 2008 SS was within a couple of hundred $$ from a new Cobalt SS so I looked harder.
290/315 possible with ~30 MPG, more seating, bigger storage space and brutally handsome.
The more I looked the more I liked.
I knew I was keeping it within the first mile on the test drive but took a 40 mile ride anyway because it was so much fun.
13K later and no regrets

Cash for Clunkers....if I'd not gotten $4500 for a car worth $1000, I'd not have purchased ANY car or truck!
Then the fact the HHR is classified as a SUV under the program meant it not need get 10MPG EPA more than the trade in to get the full amount.
I would not have considered the HHR unless it was the SS model.
Needed 4dr hatch.
That's the short list in order of importance.

Saw one in 2005 at a dealer's lot in Oakland, CA that made me do a double-take--went home and looked it up, and said "this will be my next car."
It was cool looking, a Chevy and within my budget.
Bought my baby as a b-day present to myself in September, 2007.
Almost 21K in 2 years.
No problems at all.
Best part: have made some awesome friends.
I LOVE my car.

Love the way it looks, plus I needed a car I could safely tow behind our motorhome. After driving several candidates, the HHR was on the very top of the list. Have had it since March of 07, and have not ever regretted buying it.
