Always liked the 1947-53 GM trucks & when I saw the GM concept drawing of the HHR in 2003, I knew one would be in the garage getting cut up ASAP!

I allways admired the PT cruiser but never thought I could fit in one comfortably.

May of 2008, my wife and I went shopping for a new car as we just paid off her 2003 Saturn. We REALLY wanted to go back with Saturn because her 2003 Saturn was a gem with no issues to speak about in 100k.

We went to look at the Saturn Aura [ very/very NICE car ] but having some bad winters in Michigan, I also wanted to take a look at the AWD Dodge Caliber. The EPA milage ratings upset my stomach on this model and so the wife and I went across the street to the Chevy Dealership. She asked me to please TRY and fit in the HHR, and to my amazement, at 6ft tall and 250lbs, I fit in it very well.

We test drove the 2.2 engine HHR and I was not impressed. Drove a 2.4 model HHR and felt the differance.

The rest was HISTORY. We picked up our new 2008 LT the next day. I like the body lines, features and ride. This car sure gets alot of stares when your going down the roadway. [ OR ''maybe'' its my wife their staring at ]

Visual appeal

I was looking for a small wagon with A/T & CC. I was tired of shifting gears in traffic & I missed having cruise control on long trips. It also had to have enough room in the back for my pit bike. Most of the small wagons didn't have much room in back. I looked at the xB & PT but they seemed to be small cracker boxes. I assumed they would not have much power & it seemed to me that they would come out on the losing end in any crash situation. The Honda element was nice but way too expensive & not great gas milaege. Then I saw an HHR at a Chevy dealership. It looked like a little hot rod. Wow! The style was great. And they looked a little bigger than the xB & PT. A bit more substance. The price was higher so I had to save a little more money to get one. When I was finally ready to purchase I kept going back to look at this black Panel at a local used car lot. It was overpriced (probably because it was a rare panel version) but I knew I could talk the guy down a bit. I liked the style of the 'Panel' version but wanted back seats. When I searched online for HHR websites/forums I found this place! There was a thread here that talked about adding a rear seat to the 'Panel' models & that's all it took for me to go back to that used car lot & give the black beauty a good look over. Funny enough there was an xB parked right next to it. But I barely even looked at it. I now wanted an HHR. A few days later it was parked in my garage.
