What's the best option......

2nd thread.......

I've been looking around at local dealerships and on the internet and I have a few questions. I see the ls, lt, lt2 and I'm getting lost. I have so absolutes when it comes to the HHR. I have got to have aluminum wheels, auto trans, and xm radio. Those are a must. what is the best way of getting those options in the least expensive package. I'm also at a loss on the engine choices. 2.2 or 2.4. Is there a noticeable difference.

2.2/2.4 really only noticable when pushing to pass at highway speeds.
Aluminum rims puts the LS out of the race.
You may want to add the running boards to the must have list also.

Right on, the LT is the model you are looking for. That gives you a start. 2.2 or 2.4. Guess that depends on you. I have the 2.2 and it will pull a 6 mile 7% grade without disenguaging (sp) the cruise (5speed, no downshift either). So as to power, you are looking at less that 15 lbft of torque (HP does not motivate you.... TQ does). But the 2.4 guys will beg to differ. Running boards will save a headache later. Other than that, what do you want on it? Go to CHevy.com and see the options. THen see what your wallet can do for you.

...unless you're like me and use the price difference to buy aftermarket (or used OEM); I mean, wheels are easy enough to come by. So is the XM radio.

What you want is decide based on the "no turning back" options, like the engine, transmission, ABS and air bags. Please absolutely get it with running boards.
I too, was wondering about the 2.4 added power vs auto transmission. I finally picked the 2.2 w/auto and really, it's fine. Mind you, I'm not going to bring it to the track and race it. I had priced an LT(2.4), but all the extra options that I didn't want but came with it would have cost me an extra $5000 CDN. I could have ordered from the factory, but didn't want to wait; I would've lost a major factory incentive.

The LS that I got certainly isn't a stripped down car, it has everything that I wanted and I've bought nice wheels for it. I don't regret getting that one instead of the LT.

Your pick.

Look at Chevy web site and build your own.
That way you will have all of the info for your viewing.

Mine has all the whistles and bells. I can not see paying for the factory XM
For what they want for a cost it is ridicules. I would go to Radio Shack and get
a portable unit that plugs into the radio anyways.
By all means get the running boards they will save you a lot of grief later.

Looks like everyone has summed it up for you. I do not care for XM so that was an easy option to get rid of, plus I had plans to get rid of the stock HU anyway.
I wanted the 2.4 so that was a must and I wanted the running boards and this was before any clue there was headaches to have if you dont get them.

Most of the 1LT and 2LT you can mix and match with what you really want.

Best bet is follow what everyone says and go on chevy web site and build a few till you get what you like.

Good Luck

Oneton- You said you added the factory fogs? Did you order you HHR from the factory like that or did you have them installed after you took delivery? If so what did that run you?

I was told today by a dealer that May 9th was the last day to order an HHR as "sold" not sure what that means...maybe to get the current rebates?

lost

I have an HHR, had her a month now :) wish I'd checked out this forum sooner, now I think I know what the headache might be about not having the running boards, but Im gonna ask anyways, several people have stated, that it's a major headache down the road if you dont have the running boards, so what is the big secret... why are they a must besides cosmetically... Hub is so po'ed he didn't get that option with ours, but she was slightly used and didn't have a choice, nor did we want to miss the opportunity to get her...
