I posted this in the odemeter thread but also here as I thought it might get buried there
Would you consider a HHR with 216 miles on it brand new? How many miles can be on a car before the dealer cannot sell it as new?
There is a HHR I'm interested in and the dealer says via email that there are 216 miles on it because they swapped it from another dealer.......would you buy this car as brand new?

Mine had just over 100 on it because it was a dealer trade. You warranty will be extended any miles over 0. I would say go for it if you found a teal one with boards in your area. I spent some time looking for one for you online today with no luck....

depends on the price. but yes as new. if it's a swap & you decide to buy make sure dealer does not add that fee & others for dealer trade. as dealers tack that on all the time. hope this helps.
Depends on the state. Mine had just about that much when I bought it new, but since it had never been sold to a customer or registered, it was still considered new. I've bought two cars now that have been swapped in from another dealer and it's been the same story both times.
Just make sure that they give you a 216 mile credit on the warranty. Warranty doesn't attach until the car is sold to the first customer.

I think a car is considred new until the title has changed hands for the first time....I could be wrong...and if I am, I'm sure someone will let me know. Not sure if there is a mileage limit on it or not.
I wouldn't have a problem buying a car with 216 miles on it and considering it new. It's probably been test driven a couple times and if it was moved from one dealer to another, that would add miles as well.
If the price is right and you like what the vehicle has to offer...I'd say go for it.

I agree with hhrcrafty......depends on the state. For example, here in AZ, I believe it's something like 2000-2500 miles.
But, nothing is preventing you from negotiating a deal for the mileage on a "new" car.
Oh Deb.....not disbuting you. Just thought you would like to know, the dealers usually do not have titled to the vehicle. They have a MSO (Manufacturers Sticker of Origin, or some such nonsense) and generally the dealer doesnt even own the vehicle.....either a bank or GMAC.
So physically, the titled is issued to the first owner (on a new vehicle).

They are offering it for 17999 after rebate and trade in incentive.....I can piggy back 1000 dollar military incentive and about 700 in GM Card $$ on top and that gets it to 16299 after rebates.
Not in love with the Cashmere interior or really want the ABS but this car is only 300 dollars more than the HHR's I was looking at adding boards to that come with no options other than fogs.
299 doc fee hurts also...yowzer...I'm sorry but that is obscene to charge that much....a few dealers I went to were as low as 75 dollars! Yeah I know they probably make it up elsewhere but 300 bones just looks bad on paper...ouch.

I bought mine with over 150 miles on it, and it was brand new. I had my dealer trade for the one I wanted, which was a dealer about 150 miles away. That is probably the deal with the one Goose is lookin' at, another dealer probably wanted one they had and traded each other. From what I understand, as long as the vehicle has never been 'titled' it is still considered brand new.
I stopped in today to look at the new panels and the sales manager did a inventory search up to 200 miles looking for one like I wanted. They will actually send someone to go get this car and drive it back. So you could have that kind of mileage easy if it was a dealership transfer.
