Ignition Switch Recall Key Question

Ignition Switch Recall Key Question
I didn't want to clutter the main thread about the ignition switch recall, so I thought I would post this here. What I would like to know is since it sounds like all of us that have HHR's(I have 2 2010's) will have the ignition switch replaced(which I assume will mean getting a new key), what happens if we have an extra key? Will Chevy replace them as well? I have 2 keys for each of my cars and don't want to have to spend extra $$ to have the spare keys cut if I don't have to .

As I understand it is just a replacement no new keys needed. I know they are not going to replace every bodies door locks.
"Front Page News" is completely the wrong place to post, it goes into moderation, which means nobody sees it until a moderator moves it.
Try calling your local GM service Dept., they are the authority, not us shut ins. This website has no official connection to GM. It is a "fan" site.
Just relax, use your telephone.

The ignition switch is the part being replaced. Not the ignition key cylinder.
2 different parts. I would assume they will reuse the old key cylinder and you will use the original key.
Anyone can correct me if I'm wrong.

Hey Mike, have you got a parts diagram picture that shows the seperate parts: ignition switch/ key cylinder?
Might help some of our members understand a little better.

This old thread should help clear things up, the ignition switch is the part that will be replaced, the ignition lock cylinder is reused so no re-keying is necessary.

Thanks to everyone for the answer! I was thinking it wouldn't be the key, but I wanted to make sure. Now the $64,000,000 question....when will the cylinders be in stock at the dealers? :)
