You might suggest the dealer use our search for the repair. If the button won't depress you just need to lube the shaft of the solenoid with some WD40. The "book" only has the one solution: replace the shifter assembly(period). Unfortunately, they have embargoed the shifter assemblies.

Thank you for your help. Hopefully they're open to suggestions. Someone in my hhr group suggested the shifter for the 09 and later. What do you think about that?

As far as I heard; all of them are embargoed. The 2009 on has a "leather" boot, it looks nicer, will fit.

Well, he's fixed! After being told there wasn't a replacement to be found anywhere, all of a sudden the serviceman called and said one just showed up in his morning delivery. Seems odd but I'm happy to have him back. Thank you all so much for your help. I'd be lost without you all!

Great news !!!! Is the new shifter the one with the leather boot and a tray to the right?
That would be the new revised shifter.

Nope, not the leather one. It looks the same except that the little part next to the letters is like accordioned, if that makes sense. I'll try and take a pic. I asked him about the leather boot shifter for the 09 and later but it was too late. They already had this one.

So long as it works, that's just fine!

It's working great! So happy! Thanks again to everyone in this thread. Bet I wouldn't have gotten this done under the special coverage without all of you!

Thrilled to see this, Greenied1!

Sorry I haven't been able to follow along with your situation, but we're glad to see the part was delivered and you were able to get your HHR back on the road. Let us know if you have any other questions or concerns!

Regards,

Geoff G.

Thank you Geoff. I know I would not have gotten this problem fixed without your help and the help of the customer care team!
