Had mine done this morning. I am a little surprised that they consider new keys with smaller key chain holes to be part of the fix?

They said that? Perhaps they feel if the key ring attached has less ability to travel, perhaps that could save it. Since if it hangs too low and you hit something or have to stop or start suddenly, with enough weight, it could dislodge.

That is what they implied. Nothing in writing, just a comment from the service tech when I picked up my keys.

Hey folks. This thing about the key ring hole. No offense, but it is kind of old news.
Before the recall even started, one of GM's temporary fixes was to give out a little plastic insert to be put in your old key. Converted the key from a long key ring slot to a small centered hole.
Now with the recall work, everyone just gets new keys with the small hole.
Even if your old keys have the small hole(like mine) you will still get new keys.

Talk about hijacked threads!

I always wondered why my 2008 came with one of each kind of key. Then I started reading threads about the recall, and found out why.
