and he has a free rental in the meantime............... and yeah with the extent of the recall, delays are expected as per what GM clearly said at the on-set of this whole fiasco.

Ok man - if you understand their stance - then either live with it, dicker with them or bail on the purchase. You are reading way too much into donbrew's response than what is there.

Where are we getting these from???
No big deal, just baffled. I thought I was clear with the one and only question I posed.....

"Has anyone here experienced anything like this or has knowledge of similar (at all, any make/model) where the parts were unavailable and there was no further info for a period of time?"

The dealer is bending/has bent over backwards to make me happy.....no complaints there, and when the deal is complete I'll sing their praises I just want input for the sake of discussion on who has ever experienced a recall situation like this.....

Hey we all get a bit testy at times here lately - the frustration level over the recalls is going up and up. Cool.

Anybody that owns a Toyota made in the last 10 years is in a worse predicament!

GEEZ; They are trying to cook their owners! They recalled almost every car made in the last 10 years for new airbags. Do you think they already have new ones available for, I don't know, 10 MILLION cars in a month?

"Has anyone here experienced anything like this or has knowledge of similar (at all, any make/model) where the parts were unavailable and there was no further info for a period of time?"

Yes I have heard of such a thing. Question answered?

GM's recall, electric power steering motor recalls, they say they gave a lifetime warranty to replace free of charge some of the cars NOT included in the recall. Please read it for yourself here on GM's website ;
GM Recalls Older Model Vehicles to Fix Power Steering

" In addition, 309,160 non-turbocharged Chevrolet HHRs from the 2006-2008 model years (and several hundred 2009 models) and 96,324 Saturn IONs from the 2003 model year that are not subject to these recalls will be given lifetime warranties for replacement of the electronic power steering motor"

If you go to the this Wikipedia website scroll down to the figures of how many Chevy HHR's sold in the United States of America, you can add up the 2006-2008 and ad some of the 2009 figures it comes up to the same number listed above 309,160 Oh, that means EVERY HHR sold in the USA has a defective EPS motor!!!

Chevrolet HHR - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Also you might want to check the citation number associated with those figures came direct from GM which are now broken links.

Below is from the NHTSA
As to the specifics of the HHR Electric Power Steering assist motor malfunction on recall N140115 Note: GM Bulletin 14119 for HHR model year(s) 2006-2008 and early production of 2009 HHR (non-turbo)

The automobile I have is a 2007 HHR (non-turbo) which is in the lock recall but when I call the dealership and GM customer service they both, well wait a minute... GM customer service, a certain individual known my Em said I was correct and said I am covered. But, there is always a big but involved, when I try and get it covered they say no.
If I am wrong please let me know, but the last time I checked, English has not evolved to the point that it doesn't make sense.
The problem lies with the dealerships, they won't do repairs unless the issue at hand is addressed to your VIN, GM has attached the key issue and the 2009 HHR steering motor problem to each VIN but... There's that but again, they never attached the 309,000 some odd vehicles that were not subject to the recall.
In other words it's all lip services.

Wait what is this on a Canadian GM webpage,
Official TSB and Recall Thread - Page 16 - Chevy HHR Network

Oh isn't that special, they recognize the problem in Canada and figured out a way to pay the dealership.
