went to the dealer for the recall...
Yes, I read the entire thread to try to get an idea to see if my situation was the norm.
Went to the dealer this morning, and they got the service manager. He wrote up the mirror problem and ordered parts. He said they'd fix that when the ignition recall parts arrive. They took the vehicle into the shop and reset the TAP. Won't know if it's fixed until I hit the certain stretches of road where the problem normally shows itself. (Coming from a higher speed, at 40, then again at 30. It feels like the tranny is searching for the correct gear. I'm typing this again to help anyone who has similar symptoms and may be searching this forum.)
I assumed all HHR mirrors folded. They come back towards the windows partially. In my case, it helps keep the birds from attacking their reflections. It may have been designed for going through car washes, or very narrow forest roads.
I have the GM ESP.
I do not fear for my life in the vehicle, so will wait.

Hope I'm not causing confusion, this was for my hhr. Sunday night the website showed no steering parts available, then Monday afternoon the dealer called saying it would be ready Tuesday. Checked the website later Monday night and it showed customer phased mailing. Called this morning and its ready.

Went to Chevy dealership and had the following safety recall addressed:
14063 IGNITION SWITCH REPLACEMENT
14113 REPLACE IGNITION LOCK CYLINDER AND IGNITION KEY
Parts were on order for months; mission accomplished!

I don't think mine stay folded all the way back, it's just to keep them from getting broken off when hit.
I am not sure what a TAP is. But, if it is the Transmissiom Control Module multiple resets are NOT the norm, more likely a deeper problem. Searching for gears may be normal for the smallish motor and sluggish trans on the HHR. There was nothing wrong on either of my HHRs and there are times especially on hilly terrain... (I live in the "rolling hills" of Virginia). Maybe you are used to more power, just a thought not a criticism.
My 07's ignition switch has been repaired. I never had a problem with it even with my wife's 5 pound keychain hanging on it. The power steering goes out every 100 feet or so but there is no recall on it. Told the dealer about it but they never even checked anything except the VIN to see if it was covered under the recall or not...NOT in my case.

It is NOT a recall, it is an extended warranty on the 2007 models.
If you can't find the pertinent sentence here it is "GM bulletin number 14119 will be implemented for model year 2006-2008 and early production of 2009 Chevrolet HHR (non-turbo) and model year 2003 Saturn ION to provide EPS Motor replacement for the life of the vehicle. "
After I got the letter about the recall I called the dealer and was told they would call me when the parts came in. I HAVE 2 HHR s after about 5 weeks I called the dealer and lo and behold the parts came in that day for my car. I say be proactive
