If cost is no problem, get the 09. If you want a good deal pricewise go for the 08. It all depends on what you want in an HHR. Do you need (or want) the latest and greatest in an HHR?

I'm hoping the HHR is big enough inside for all my gear. I'm also looking at (used) Trailblazer SS or Silverado SS if it's not. Not sure I can swallow the gas mileage pill of those bigger vehicles. But then again, I'm averaging 19 MPG in my element so 14-16 MPG is those other vehicles isn't too bad.

I really want to get back into the GM fold. My uncle is retired from GM so I want to support them in that respect, but I also want an American car again. GM is about all I'd consider.
lol yea lsd as in limited slip not anything with pink elephants. I have hauled 24 full cases of bananas before; talk about low riding. I dont know how much gear you have to carrry but the rear and front passenger seat fold flat giving you around 63.8 cubic feet of space (off of the top of my head figure).

Any 2008 HHR built since March 7th has a higher sticker price. Although they haven't built many because of the axle strike.

If there are good rebates, and you find the car you want, I would go for it. Some guys around here were waiting for the later spring SS's so they could get Brembo brakes, that were PROMISED. Guess what? They are still waiting, same thing with the option lists on the 09's. I can't tell you how many times I've wanted a particular option that was on the list at the beginning of the model year, but not actually available untill even the next spring. Most of the options are not a deal breaker usually, I mean I would wait to get a Turbo SS instead of a standard 4 cyl, but might not wait for the Brembo brakes, or the configurable display, cause the wait might be longer than you think.

consider the mods!

Any of the performance mods are being developed on the 08's and may not work on the 09's!(The SC and program for my 05 Mustang Gt wouldn't work on the 06's Different ecu program! The 06 people had to wait until the New program was developed and had to wait awhile. Id stay with the 08's because the aftermarket is very slow and is just begining to develope mods for us. You know if we crack the the 08's ECU the 09's will change just to screw with us:

Why wait until tomorrow for what you can have today? After a little more than a month driving mine, it has quickly become one of the best cars I've ever owned. I am completely satisfied with it and waiting for a configurable display, Brembos and etc. wouldn't be worth the wait to me. Just my opinion...

If you or anyone else is thinking about a 2009 SS, the panel and the AA5 option (side rear window delete) will both be available. :twothumbs
