08 SS brakes suck

Every morning brakes suck, took to dealership and they reprogrammed brake controller on monday and its going back next monday for the same problem. Its my wifes car and she's always got my 2yr old boy and 4m old girl with her. Kinda ticks me off about it. Its scary when you back down our steep ass driveway and the pedal hits the floor.

I expect that your HHR SS probably has the Automatic transmission. Although I haven't had this happen yet I have been watching all the posts carefully. It seems to be a known issue and GM is supposed to be working on an upgrade for our HHR SS with the Automatic. The problem has something to due with a lack of vacuum on the power assist. In the meantime if you let it run for a bit to build up vacuum it is supposed to be ok as a temporary work around.

To ensure that GM keeps focused on a fix you may also want to post (as several others have) on the following site:

http://www.nhtsa.com/

It seems that some of these are more prone to the issue than others but we'll probably all get an upgrade. Hopefully soon!!

The fix of a vaccume pump is coming and the goverment is not going to do anything since GM is already working on it. They already dropped the Sky and Solstice investigation since they were working on a fix..

GM does not want the liability any more than you want the hard pedal.

is she letting it warm up before she just jumps in and drives off?? ..... this is one reason why I like the remote start so much. On cold starts I start it up a min or two before i go and the problem is fine...everytime i just jump in, start up and take off the brakes go to the floor. But everytime i let it warm up and the vac drops down to 20 all is good.....hopefully this will help

What they said... while it's not the best designed brake system in the world, it can be overcome by letting the SS warm up before taking off down your steep driveway.

I always use the remote start before I leave my suite. That way the brakes are never a problem by the time I get to the SS. All warmed up and ready 2 go.

Yet another reason I'm glad I got the 5MT.
