I used a pipe cutter to cut the housing and drain the fluid out. A fun job, messy!

For an ’08 SS, your easiest option is to go with complete “quick strut” assemblies (strut, spring, mount all preassembled) from reputable brands like Monroe, KYB, or Gabriel, which you can find through RockAuto, AutoZone, Advance Auto, or similar suppliers, and they’re a good choice if you want a straightforward install without dealing with spring compressors; just make sure you select ones specifically for the SS trim since spring rates can differ, and while you’re in there it’s also worth checking related components like top mounts and even nearby wheel bearings, as TBS bearings or mounts can contribute to noise and ride issues that feel similar to bad struts.

Go with KYB the quick struts include the top plate.

I would recommend these and rebuild using OEM FE5 springs

Last we heard nobody has quick struts that are SS specific. The books claim "fits all HHR", the SS is different, LS/LT struts "fit" but are not the same.
Do you have different info?

Some\nWhat repeating other replies,

Oh HECK no! "Easist option"? Maybe, If you don't care about a terrible outcome.

There is no loaded assembly on the market that will give the correct ride height for SS. Feel free to prove me wrong. Showing a listing for SS won't do it. Incorrect listings for SS are the norm, not the exception.

Don't care about ride height? Okay, but of the "reputable" brands mentioned, only KYB will give adequate dampening for the SS.

First and only post (almost comically) incorrectly contradicts prior advice and wraps up with an irrelevant plug for a specific brand? I smell an ai bot.
