Anyone know where I can get a 09 LNF short block or running engine?

So I had the fortune of actually being given a sweet black 09 HHR SS by my wife's nephew. He thought he blew the turbo in it (smoking bad he said), it sat in his garage for 3 years. A few months ago he called and said "Hey I know you like HHR's I got this SS with a blown turbo I think, I have no time to screw with it, bring a trailer down and pick it up, I'll give it to you to play with" Hell yeah, I did just that.

Long story short, put a new battery in it, fresh fuel, took the plugs out to inspect them (sooty)sprayed some cylinder fog oil in it and turned it over for a bit, put the plugs back, it fired but sputtered. Bought new plugs, put them in, didn't help.
My buddy brought over his boroscope and compression gauge, not good. . #1 had 80psi, #2 100psi #3 75 psi #4 25psi, scoped the cylinders, they're scored.

After speaking to the engine tech at ZZ Performance he said the engines can't be bored, just replace it with one of their short blocks, the trouble is they've been out of stock for awhile. And I'm not really wanting to turn this into a racer, just a sweet daily driver.
What would your suggestions be? I can't find a used 2.0 LNF engine anywhere. Can I put a 2.2 or 2.4 with a turbo in it?

I am surprised that ZZP didn't want to sell you the updated short block LDK or LHU. A couple members have gone that route, I am sure one will pipe up soon.

Don't just assume that scored cylinder walls are the only reason for the low compression. The intake valves are probably coked, typical on these engines when they get some miles on them.

Even worse, it would really suck to buy a short block, only to find out that the timing chain had skipped teeth, and your valves are all bent.

You should perform a leak down test.

Good points RJ, I also thought if the possibility of a head gasket or piston rings sticking . Maybe run some Seafoam or marvel mystery oil thru the engine or just pull the head and look, you’ll be pulling the head anyway.
