Backfire

Ok. I searched and didn't really see much on this topic. My 08 SS has begun to occasionally backfire. Doesn't happen that often, but has happened about 3 or 4 times in the last week. It seems to do it in 1st or 2nd, say sitting in traffic. It did it yesterday...I was waiting at a light..pulled up about 20 yards in first (not hard on the gas)...pushed in the clutch..and backfire (like TA-DOW..not real loud, just noticeable). I guess that's what it is..more than the typical burbling I get. It doesn't really bother me, I just want to make sure it's not damaging.

Any ideas?

hurm, not super crazy, i could understand if it was 100+, even then, I doubt it should be backfiring

has it thrown a code or CEL?

Nope. haven't seen anything come up. Like I said, it doesn't happen too often and I can't seem to reproduce it on demand. I may take it by the dealer here in the next couple of weeks if it continues, but I suspect they won't be able to reproduce it either...

my z28 backfires when I get on it a little when it's cold. I know that's bad for the engine but I might have to do it to move out with traffic or get out of someone's way. Does yours do this soon after starting it up cold?

try refueling to reset the computer.
grasping at straws here, but maybe the timing got screwed up if sitting in traffic for a while.

Could be as simple as a small exhaust leak, letting cool air in as you coast between shifts.

Talking I've had the popping noise myself.

Mostly I have noticed it after a long drive in the heat and if I take my time between gears with the clutch in. I drive a lot with the cruise on. Once I come off the freeway and get in stop and go traffic, that is when I will hear it now and then, but not too often. I still have less than 4,000 miles on the engine. But, like I said, it does it when the engine is warmed up on long drives.
