BSR tune....or Wester's???
I agree with the folks about personal responsibility. Once you have a few thousand miles on the engine, you can be fairly certain there are not any major inherent mfg defects. At that point if you mod you pay (for any failures). If you can't handle the cost of clutch, trans, or even long block replacement, and are mechanically clueless, then enjoy the great power of a stock SS and that wonderful 100k mile warranty (seriously). Life is too short to defraud or argue about warranty work. All of this IMHO.
Warranty work
IMHO if you have to be that concerned about your warranty and cant afford to fix something you modded then dont mod! Most of the repairs Ive had done on my other cars even under warranty I got fixed by my local mechanic so it was done right, yes more expensive, but Im not being held hostage by GM! If something goes wrong in the motor due to my mods, I just fix it and make it stronger. This is only a 25K car!
just ordered a spare ECM
have one on order, by the time it gets shipped, should have it at the end of next week. I will then swap out the ECM's and have the new one accumulate a few thousand miles before I add any tunes. will keep the original one for warranty if ever needed.
btw it seems the correct part # is 12614967 not only for the SS, but the Solstice & Sky, and probably the Cobalt SS, since we all share the same engine (LNF)

Thanks all for clearing things up. I'm not one to race, I just like to feel the power when the mood hits me. 500-1000$'s is not too much to pay to have an extra 60hp & 80torque at the wheels IMO. Besides, I'm the dude getting passed by semi's on 71south getting 36mpg at 59mph...lol
Also, I think that the other mods (giant-------intake--intercooler--exhaust) that would complement the tune would give away the "i was just driving down the road" story.

Assuming not just a rhetorical question. HPtuners $500, spare ecm=$385, bsr ppc tuner=$995. My neighbor has spent $70,000 plus on all the motor variants for his '55 and '64 ss, although he doesn't keep track, so what the heck, we are low budget. Everything is relative.
I'll post on my experience with the BSR in about 10 days. I like the ability to load the tune for a track day or autocross (and ability to take advantage of race gas), and then go back to stock for mid-week if desired. Time difference with Sweden and east coast and first implementer is slowing the process a bit, but the folks at Hahn are first rate (so far). Wish we had 93 octane here though, as 91 means timing retard and other protective measures at full boost.
