Definitely the heat shield. No need to worry. It's been going on since day one and August will be 3 years.

Definitely NOT the heat shield...

Out of curiousity I just went out and turned my key forward, but did not start the vehicle. When I shut it back off it made this particular noise. This is with a cold motor also... So I did it again with the hood open then. It sounds like it is a solenoid or plunger of some kind. It does it once, and then about 6-7 seconds later does it again. There is a slight buzzing sound between them also, kind of like a small electric motor might make... I'm sure this is normal, and it is probably specific to the 2.0 turbo motor. Seems to be coming from around the intake or perhaps in back by the turbo.

I just did the same thing, to open the sun roof and clean around the edge, heard the same noise that you did, that is not the noise we are referring to, it's after you run the engine and it heats up, then when you shut it down, you will hear the other noise, which is probably the exhaust in some way shape or form that is expanding and contracting like most of us think it is.
it's either the cat cooling down, or like KNEZRYD suggested, the heat shield, either way, nothing to worry about, just another way of bonding with your SS

I listened to our only SS on the lot today. It has an automatic transmission. No clicking at all heard after shut off. So I took it for a little spin.........fun fun fun! No clicking afterwards either.

CarlsSS has done a good job explaining what I was talking about, and the original reason for starting this thread. The noise I'm referring to is definitely not heat expansion/contraction related.

I had not done any experimentation yet so didn't realize it could be replicated without running the engine.

I'm also thinking it must be something specific to the LNF motor.

Maybe turbofreak or someone else with lots of LNF experience can shed some light on what this is.

I know what it is...

there is a little gold disc thing on the the top of the valve cover. it controlls something? but any way.. open your hood and then start the car, go over to the engine and listen, this little thing will be rattleing really fast. wait a min and it will clam down. then turn the engin off and go back infront and listen or touch it you will feel it click and then go off.

this is what i found atleast.

More than likely the purge solenoid in the emissions system, lets start worrying when it stops doing it.

Emissions-related stuff? Boooooo...

I was hoping it would be something more exciting than that.
