Dealer is saying it's a ZZP engine. Is that a thing? Or are they talking about the intake?

Is it the ZZ Performance 2.0 gen 3 long block? Why would someone do a swap at 83k miles? Blew up original? Bushing way more HP?

Any reason to be scared off? lol

Some 2009 had a "block porosity" issue, which required engine replacement. Or it could have been another reason. Timing chain, ran out of oil, who knows?

ZZP is reputable. Either the LNF long block, or the LDK/LHU, like I purchased from them. Ask the dealer if they have any more information, or can put you in touch with the previous owner.

Perhaps ZZP can tell you what it is, based on the VIN.

Ask if there is a "premium fuel required" label on the gas filler door. I bet the dealer is clueless about the actual value of the car.

The block porosity was in the 2008 2.0 SS , so I’m thinking a possibility of a timing chain failure in the original engine, but it’s been taken care of by replacing the entire engine. No reason to fear a ZZP long block!

This X2.

I am about to install a tune from ZZP on one of my HHR SSs.

Most people who get an engine from ZZP, which is an Ecotec high-perf parts and tuning place, also get the ZZP tune which requires premium fuel. Accidentally putting in regular (87, 89) fuel can destroy the engine.

I agree with Donbrew about the dealer. The dealer sees this car as less valuable because an "engine has been replaced". People who are into Ecotec performance see this as a MORE valuable car than stock. Who knows what other $$ parts are on it from ZZP (intercooler, downpipes, etc.).

Don't give your hand away by telling the dealer anything about how great the replacement engine from ZZP is, etc.. Just play along with him.

My ECM was tuned by ZZP, I did not get a premium fuel sticker. Lack of a sticker means nothing. Presence of a sticker means that the ECM was tuned by GM.
