Custom exhaust?

Are there any problems with our stock exhaust system that a custom exhaust could fix or make better, besides just sound????

The exhaust is pretty good sounding for stock, which is rare. That makes me think it's not a super restrictive system, but they may make more freely flowing systems that would increase power and MPG by a little.

Most of the reasons for doing an all out custom one are getting the sound you want or using bigger pipes, plus many times it's cheaper.

from what I've read on here, you won't get any gains from an aftermarket exhaust unless you reprogram the computer. Apparently, and this from the Solstice- Sky GXP guys, the computer just dumbs the engine back to stock power levels whenever any gains from any mod take effect.

I hope I'm wrong about that, but I think that's what they said.

If that's true, that is so dumb! Now is that just exhaust, or any mod? I'd sure like to have a CAI and some kind of metal IC pipe among many other things!

Pull the fuse??????

On our SSR's, if we make an improvement in intake air flow or in the exaust system (there are a number of various exaust system's available for the SSR).....the trick was to pull the fuse on the computer for about 10 mins. Then fire it up and it would adjust to the changes made......In other word's, it would adjust the fuel flow for the in increase in intake flow or reduced back pressure in exaust flow. Wolfie can you be more specific on what you mean by pull the fuse on the computer. Are you talking about the ECM fuse under the hood or ???

Yes thats the one .....On the SSR, with any modification to intake or exaust flow it was recomended was to remove the #27 ECM fuse for about 10 mins. Then the Ecm would re-educate its self to the change........Also if to changed the fuel you were running from 87 to 93......Wolfie
