Question Door Lock Issue

Hi, I am wondering if someone here can be able to help me with a door lock issue I am experiencing with my 2008 SS. The central door lock works but sometimes the key doesn't open it. It is a random issue and I have been locked out a couple of times. I did not have a remote and so I got a replacement at a local place. It was programmed and tested. Works fine at the time. The problem is that the keyless remote works fine but after a short while it doesn't work at all no matter how many times I pressed the buttons. The battery is new and it is able to lock and unlock all the doors but it just doesn't work if I walk away and return. Wondering if this is an actuator problem or something else.

Could be a distance issue with aftermarket remote

What does the key have to do with the story? What does "walk away and return' mean? You said it was random, then cite particulars. How do you get locked out, with just a malfunctioning fob? Got a key?

Hi and thanks for your response.

Maybe I did not explain correctly. I am having issue opening the door with both the key and the remote.

Remote Problem: If I press the lock button on the remote it locks fine with lights flashing. As long as I stand close to the door I can lock and unlock it fine. The problem is when I return from a longer distance (shop, house,) the remote doesn't open the door no matter how many times I press the button. Its like after a certain time it doesn't work. I would then open the door manually with the key which sets off the alarm because the car was locked with the remote. The battery is new and the remote works only within a particular time frame. Doesn't work after that time even if I am standing close to the car.

Car Key Problem: The issue with opening the door with the car key is that sometimes it doesn't work. The key doesn't turn the lock. So I am wondering if this is a door actuator problem. BTW currently only the TPMS warning light is on due to missing sensors.

I don't know. But, there is a thing in common: the RCDLR is the receiver for both the fob and the TPMS.

I can't think of anything if the other doors don't respond to the second push.

Is this a case of a 2008 year model and losing the programming ? Donbrew should know if it pertains here.

The key not working sometimes. Is it worn and just not turning the lock ? Have the recalls been done where you would have received 2 new keys.

Hi, the key is a replacement and not the original. It locks and unlocks the door most of the time but sometimes it doesn't turn the lock at all. What I wanted to know is if replacing the door actuator can help with that or whether the entire lock mechanism is worn and needs to be replaced. For now I have decided not to lock the car. Just got the car a few months ago and no idea if recall was done. Anyway thanks a lot for your help.

Send hellshotrod a PM he might have a door actuator, but I think it’s the lock cylinder itself that’s sticking

The actuator is part of the latch. If you get a new cylinder you will want to get a locksmith to match it up to your key.
I'm thinking the latch/rods are sticky.
