Question door rubs fender

2009 model - bought new - daily driver , 41,000 miles. never in any type or accident or fender bender. just starting happening about 1 month ago. BOTH front door rub the front fender when opening door. what the hell happened? did the car shrink in this crazy cold weather in Chicago? how do i adjust the panel gap in between the front fender & door? it catches the fender on the bottom third of the front fender when opening door.

When I've seen that happen on other vehicles it's been worn hinge mechanisms (pins/bushings).

Do the doors raise relative to the body when you lift them towards the latch (back) end?

no, hinges are tight. funny thing - it's both front doors, & i am in the car 95% by myself - so the right front door is hardly ever used - so why, all of a sudden, both front doors are rubbing the front fender when opening?

Has the car been jacked up recently, or on a lift?

Sometimes they don't catch the right spots on the frame.

Could it be ice build up? Ice will freeze below the hinges and make noise as if metal on metal. Mine did it yesterday.

when opening the front door from the outside, i can see the lower third of the door rub against the fender & makes a creak noise. when the door is closed, the panel gap looks good, but it catches & rubs on the fender.

I would take a close look at the front bumper area. Sure sounds like maybe it got hit while parked. Doesn't take much to crumple the front clip and push it back a little.

^^^^^^ This, especially since you say the hinges are tight.

Kind of a bummer though.
