feral.....

I trust dealers statements very little.....especially from a dealer selling a competitive vehicle and one that stands to make a small fortune by selling you an extended warranty (but I'm somewhat harsh and not giving the dealer the benefit of doubt. His warranties (Ford) are not under the same guidelines as GM....so how would he know).

Based on what you have found about the previous owner's purchase date, you have a POWERTRAIN WARRANTY until 8/14. The real determining factor would be to have a Chevrolet Dealer check the VIN through their VIS, that would give the date of the original sale. Obviously, it would be to your advantage to do this and also to use a GM/Chevrolet dealer for any service, whether it is for warranty or not. I doubt Ford can provide reliable accurate work BEYOND the "easy" stuff....like oil changes, etc.

And a VERY LOUD GOOD LUCK with the "new" HHR!

He said if we still weren't comfortable with the extended warranty, he'd re-write the loan without it. I left a message this morning asking him to do that.

So, yes we have the car. I have hardly driven it because I've been buried with work and actually got really sick last weekend. That's why my husband's been running around for me.

Snoopy, I was told there was no factory warranty since the car was 5 yrs old. I checked the carfax though and the first owner didn't purchase it until 8/2009. I left a message asking them to check on that for me. Thanks for that info, I didn't know it went from the purchase date.

Last car I bought was in 2001, I forgot how fun it is to deal with dealerships.

All GM Warranty starts with the recorded In Service Date.
That would be the date the car was first delivered to the Original buyer.
Any GM Service dept can take your Vin number and tell what that date is.

All the dealers I have worked for the best aftermarket warranty co. That I have worked with was win's extended warranty.
They rarely question any claims and when they did they came and inspected the car in question with in a day of contacting them.
I think a lot depends on the dealer and warranty company's relationship.

X-2

The dealer I use offers Zurich for extended policies over the GMPP plan.
They have their Whole Business covered under that Warranty company and have had for many years.
The Service manager tells me that Zurick beats GMPP all to pieces as far as they are concerned and they can sell both plans.
The Dealer where you take your car for repairs can have some additional influence if they have a reputable history with the Warranty Company.

So ... bottom line... it can not only matter what Warranty Company you choose ...but where you take your car for repairs.
