Fakers

Have yall ever spotted any fakers? The guys who buy the SS badges and put them on a stock HHR, etc? Saw one today on I85, no way could this have been an SS unless he figured out how to make a hidden inter cooler (stock front bumper).

Ah, that critter eh?

The shop that uses it as a delivery truck/rolling billboard has dolled it up with "SS" badges and 2LT rims, but underneath all that...'tis but a humble LS Panel.

If you want to see it up close and personal, the shop is located on Dale Earnhardt Blvd in Kannapolis just down the street from the State Farm agent.

It's always parked in their lot.

Primarily, they sell motor scooters and ATV's.

Perhaps I should go show them what a real SS would do? I know exactly where its at, I'm from Salisbury but have worked in kannapolis and concord.

Really, I know its no big deal. And imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. But it does irritate me for some reason.

Do you suppose I'm a Faker? Isn't an LTZ the same as a 2LT? It has the sunroof, leather interior, chrome door handles, and all the optional trim the LTZ's have... If not - I'm guilty...

To the guy above, well... I couldn't tell you the difference between a 2lt and ltz.

An LTZ badge on a HHR would also qualify as a 'faker' by your definition.

Guess I'm guilty. How bout the guys who cut their bars and have a 3 bar grille, paint it body color, to make it look like an SS?

It's a free country, and you can stick a Mercedes badge in the grille if so inclined, but it's still a Chevy.

In the same vein, there's an '08 LS in Victory Red that delivers for the Chinese restaurant on the Concord Parkway in Concord, NC. And that poor critter is liberally sprinkled with self stick "Type-R" badges.

I've been meaning to grab a photo or two of this ultra rare Honda HHR, but I never see it parked.

I just don't understand the conversion thing? It kind of messes with the guys who actually went out and bought an SS and actually have the SS models, and get to deal with the good points and the bad ones as well.

It's kind of like going and getting your ASE certs and then running into people who don't have their certifications claiming they do. All that does is 1: ticks you off, because you busted your butt for those certs 2: their actions make all ASE certified people look bad (guy claims he has his certifications but actually doesn't, botches a job, and now to the public all ASE certified individuals are schmucks). I wouldn't put a dodge sticker on my ford truck. If I wanted a dodge I'd buy a dodge.

I guess I'm just one for calling a spade a spade. If you're going to convert the body, may as well do an engine and interior swap as well.

I've never claimed to be anything that I'm not, and I don't understand why anybody would.
