Talking Found a new way to love the SS

I usually tinker around in I and it is definitely fun. Well tonight I wanted see where the shift points are in "L"and all I can say is WOW. It hangs a gear for ever and downshifts so much sooner the I gear. Talk about instant torque. The thing just flies. It my new fun zone. I can't wait to play more. The SS feels like a totally different beast.

If you haven't yet, try driving in I while in Comp. Mode. You'll be happier still!!!!

Well It was fun, but I have already found the low setting. I can't remember ever driving this, without a cheesy grin on my face. It is down right fun to drive. Is it just me ?

Yep, L gear is mucho fun.
I use all three gears, and even around town I shift it like a manual. I start off in L gear, then manually shift it into I gear, then back into L gear slowing down. I drive in I gear on the freeway up to about 80mph, then anything faster, shift into Drive.
It's a habit I've had for years, to manually shift the automatic, like a manual. "Moon"

Call me a noob, but can someone explain this a bit more?

I did search it a bit but I really didn't find anything.

I thought 'I' just held gears longer? I read the manual on the 13 hour drive home from the dealership, lol.

I have always driven in 'D' ever since I bought my SS 3 weeks ago. How does driving in comp mode in 'D' differ from comp mode in 'I', or comp mode in 'L'??

You have it. D I L get sportier as you go down, it not only stays in the gear to a higher rpm, it shifts down quicker too. Does your car have the stg1 ? Where did you have to go to get it you are only 4 1/2 hours from me.

going in next week for stage 1

I will have to give this I and L a go when I get the stage installed.

I have ripped around a bit with a couple cars on normal drives, but I have never even driven the car in 'comp mode' yet

SS Fan - you have a PM

Guys not to bust your bubble, but if you look in the Owners Manual, you will see that you lose 30% torque and power in L.

That wonderfull downshift you feel is the tranny locking out final drive.

L handles 1-2nd and will automatically shift back into D above 60mph, even though the linkage still says L.

At the drag strip because of the reduction in torque, I have found that the Automatic works almost like a 4 speed L for launch and I for the major pull. Because I run at an 1/8 mile track, I only hit 4th gear at the finish line.

I have done runs in all three gear settings. L-I,gives me my best runs of around 9.5 at 82MPH. This is with COMP mode on in an AUTOMATIC with street tires! Not the fastest car at the track but the fastest 4-banger station wagon around here

I have also dragged with the ESC/TC OFF. In L no problem, again because of torque reduction. I and D forget it... you just sit and spin at the line.
