If you trade it in there is no way that anything you tell the salesman will get to the new consumer. Used cars are sold Caveat Emptor "Buyer Beware" except for blatant safety related things then it would be the seller to a consumer, not you..

I would imagine that the car will go to auction anyway. but just curious. Someone else told me once the sales contract is complete then they are bound by the terms even if the engine blows up afterward.

I'd keep it and replace the engine, but then I like the HHR SS awhole lot better than anything offered at any dealership these days!

You might be liable if you intentionally disabled the airbags and warning lights and sold the car to an individual. A dealer that re sales "should know" that there are defects, because the are supposed to inspect it and sell a legal car. You are not a professional, even if you are.

That is something to consider when selling a modified car. Like my 94 Impala SS, I've removed the air bags and the antilock brake system although I have not intention of selling it unless someone flashes me a bunch of money. In which case I would probably have to have some legal document drawn up explaining all that those details..... not a lawyer.

There is that pesky "merchantability" thing. If the car came from the factory with safety equipment, that equipment has to be there when you sell it.
