So, after months of researching forums and asking questions about the CV axles for the automatic SS, I had looked into the upgraded axles from The Driveshaft Shop. They aren't producing these anymore according to the e-mail screenshot below. I decided to go with the slightly shorter (1/4" or so) option with the Precision GM8048 axle from O'Reilly Auto Parts due to my SS being lowered and after about a week in, I've had no issues. Just figured I'd throw this out here to perhaps save someone else some research. Precision CV axle GM8048
Given the slip joint (tri pot), I just don't see how a quarter inch would make a difference.
i can vouch for 1/4” not making a difference. Im running grand am cv’s and the drivers side is .17” short and the passenger side is .25” short. Eventually im going to get dss to make me 2 passenger sides so i dont have to use a ridiculous axle setup anymore
So...has anyone else used the GM8048 axles? Any issues? Seeing that this post is a few years old and stock and aftermarket axles are either non-existent or unavailable.
@FatTireBiker I'm in a FB group where this topic comes up occasionally. GM8048 axles are an option but since they roughly 1/4" shorter, you should only consider them if your HHR is lowered.
You may alternatively consider having your current axles rebuilt. A name folks have shared is Indianapolis Rack and Axle (317.546.1140). I have never needed to have mine rebuilt yet, so I cannot vouch for their work. However, other folks in the FB group have used them and seem to be happy about it. I assume they do "mail order" type work where you can just send your axles to them if you live remote. Give them a call if interested.
Thank you for the update/info. I have tried a local rebuilder but no luck so I will try you source. My SS is lowered on coilovers so I hoping for the alternative.

If you are lowered, the GM8048 axles may work. It's your choice.
