How many auto trans SS cars have you heard of with tranny issues or failures? I've heard alot about the M5 blow ups.I've seen one Hahn tune for an auto. Time will tell if the trans holds up, but condemming the trans because its old doesnt make sence.

There's got to be some reason why those mean GM engineers won't let the auto crowd have their 260 ft-lbs... If it were doable without over-stressing the trannie they'd probably be doing it.

Hahn programming and Auto trans

We need to get the test data concerning the auto trans being weak or not. It to me would be crazy for GM not to build a stonger trans in a car of this type (SS, turbo, competitive mode traction and etc). I work in aerospace and many times parts are over engineered. We also need input form Hahn and others concerning this issue. I would like a new Hahn program but not until more data is available.

Hahn 1st and 2nd gear dyno pulls would be nice to see... did he roll back the boost in these gears like GM did? Or does it let the engine loose like he does for the manual?

Well The GP guys take a tranny that is running a 260 HP 3800SC and boost them to over 300 HP and they start breaking parts int he 315 HP -325HP range.

GM leaves a little room to prevent tranny problems. I would say they could add a little to this enigine and get by but if you add up to the 300+ range it will break as it does in the other cars.

The GP also uses a advanced program on the 300 HP V8 cars that kills the power at the shift points. This kills the cars performance in 0-60 and 1/4 mile times. It does make 300 HP but it makes far less at the shift points.

GM went to a lot more effort to make the Automatic live in this vehicle if you advance the power it will shorten it's life. It would have been a lot cheaper and easier to just bolt in the 260 HP like the M5 has but GM did not want to replace trannys.

Add soft drag slicks to this and you will see parts on the ground just off the line.

Hyper, this may be a dumb question, but how heave are the GP's compared to the HHR's?

If they are in stock form they sit around 3600 pounds. The HHR with an Auto is 3200 pounds.

I know many of the GP racers are gutting the cars and getting them down to 3300-3400 with only a drivers seat.

Either way that kind of weight should not effect the tranny life.
