I have 2006 Pontiac Solstice and have done the disconnect the battery routine at least 3 times. It is a sure fix for resetting the ECM. If that works you will know immediately, drive it like you intend to so the car learns your habits (it will) . If that does not fix the problem return it immediately, if it has been abused by someone else before you took possession you might have let them off the hook. The turbo motor is tough. I'm sure the regulars and moderators of this forum will guide you correctly. Just disconnect the battery for 15 min and see if that helps. Good luck.

I've had the gas cap issue on many of my GM vehicles and it does reset itself after a few days. By detaching the battery, does that cause any other issues with the electronics such as radio presets, DIC info?

The setting of a code/check engine light for a loose gas cap is NOT going to make the car run badly, its just an emmissions warning and a nuisance. If the HHR is running badly, then something else is wrong. It never ceases to amaze me how creative dealers can be to avoid work, like its going to go away by itself. NOT

To reset the PCM/ECM without cutting battery power and radio/clock, pull the PCM/ECM fuse in the fuse box for a few minutes.

PS: If it takes 2-3 days of learn mode for the car to learn how to run right, how come they run so darn good when you test drive them new? More BS!

i agree with you. bad gas cap doesn't/shouldn't cause no boosting of the turbo. i like the idea of pulling the fuse. i'll try that. i hate to do it,and friday or saturday it's back on. after thurs.,i'm not off again till tues.

A loose cap itself wouldn't make the car run poorly but if it tripped a CEL/limp mode, that would.

Yeah - the loose cap just triggers the check engine light, but shouldn't affect any performance.

just went out to the parking lot and pulled the ecm fuse. i thought it would have been a bigger fuse (20amp). question is do i start the car then put the fuse back in??? or put it in first then start???

I had the same thing happen to mine, but 2 hours after i took the car home. So i called ONSTAR and they told me it something to do with the air intake sensor on the intercooler piping. So i take the car to the dealer extremely mad but i didnt want to be an a** to the people. They checked it out for me and it was the air intake sensor which caused the turbo not to spool at all and it threw 7 codes. And now my throw out bearing is bad it makes a horrible ticking sound so the SS is going back to the dealer tomorow. Keep in mind ive only had the car for 4 weeks so im pretty upset but i still really like the car.
