Check to see if it is tuned. The GMTU will have blue sensors on the front of the engine and High test only on the gas fill door and a sticker under the engine hood. Nice ride, mines a black 08. 32,000 miles on it.

The stickers aren't a sure sign(many like me, never put them on)
The blue Bosch Tmap sensors are the thing to look for. One up top and one below on the lower charge pipe, right in front of the AC compressor.

Top sensor:

Attachment 16249

Just snapped a couple pics. So it appears I have the GMTU (stands for GM tuned?) Sorry for being such a n00b but what advantages does this provide over stock? Specs etc... Basically, just trying to find out what this car has in it and if it has been configured correctly etc...

GMTU. GM Turbo Upgrade. Also referred to as the Stage 1.

Stock SS is 260 hp, 260 ft. lbs.torque in 5 speed. Stock autos are detuned to something like 235 hp in the 1st (and 2nd ?) gears.

The GMTU will up the 5 speed values to 290 hp, 315 torque for the HHR SS.
An increase of 30 hp, 55 torque.

Thanks fireman... so it appears I have the GMTU then based on my pics?

What should I look into for some initial low cost upgrades? Intake? Blowoff valve? Exhaust mods?

Someone else posted mine may have the LSD also since I have Brembo's on the front? How can I verify?

Yes on yours having the GMTU.( better have since I see you already added it to your sig. )

I posted that about the LSD.

SS's had an optional Performance Package that consisted of the front Brembos and LSD. Only available with the 5 speed.
Verify it ? Not really sure unless you looked at a build sheet for your car.

Mods. Lots of ways to go. I would suggest a rear swaybar if you don't have one. There wasn't one from the factory. Might check to see if the previous owner added one.

Lots of us SS members on this site have our mods listed under our signatures. You might get some ideas there.

Welcome Pyr0TeK.

I'm just up the street from you in Kannapolis. I like how yours is clean. Mine is pretty darn "yellow" from all the pollen. I actually got mine out of the driveway today for the first time in a couple of months, I had to take a buddy of mine up to Tom Johnson's by the speedway to pick up his new Motorhome. Boy I felt bad because my car is so dirty.

Thanks man... I appreciate all the info for a n00b like myself. Like I stated in my original post, I used to have a sweet Mazdaspeed Protege with tons of upgrades I did all myself... but that was years back so just getting back into the swing of things as I have not had a boosted ride since. I don't want to go all out on mod'ing my SS... just suttle upgrades or my wife will kill me! lol. That damn Mazdaspeed drained the bank like the Titanic.

My old speed:

My '09 SS auto has the "premium gasoline recommended" sticker on the gas cap door but doesn't have any blue stickers on the engine. Is this gas sticker standard with the SS model?

I get 15+ of boost.
