How is the SS?

My jeep died so I'm looking at either a HHR SS or a Caliber SRT, the SRT interior and seats look better but I can't find much on reliability for them I drive a Sunfire and it's been through some ****.

But my spending range is like 13k tops and I can find a bunch of SS models for that price with 60,000-80,000 or so miles where as the SRT is in a bit on the higher end

Whew, sorry for all that, basically what engine do you think is more reliable?

No mods & stock, or if anything, a Stage 1 kit if fitted?

I do plan on trying to test drive both even though they won't be the same trim just to get a idea of what I'm working with.

aboard!

The best starting point will always be a clean and unmodified SS, there were enough teething problems with the Stage 1 upgrades, that buying one with it already done can be a real crapshoot.

Find the best one you can that fits your budget, and then use it as a starting point.

I'm pretty sure the SS gang will weigh in with more input soon.

My friend with a Neon SRT, describes the engines as "ticking time bombs", and that's basically the same unit that trickled down to the Caliber SRT...so caveat emptor.

Welcome to the site.

If you're asking which engine is better, the HHR SS or Dodge Caliber, well of course I'll say the HHR SS 2.0 turbo.
(then again, this is the Chevyhhr.net site, so I am biased )

Actually I know nothing about the SRT or it's engine.

With a budget like that you can find a really nice SS. Low mileage, stock would be your best bet. Happy hunting!

And welcome to the site!

Insurance is 20.00 a month more for the SS over the 2LT.......You can go drive one if you want, I couldn't get past the goofy looking dash...

I'd go with an SS..........................................
