I've got my HHR SS
I made MY HHR SS BEFORE there was even a factory one was even mentioned being built.. So am I supposed to take my badges off just because the Factory Finally decided to make one.. Nope I was ahead of them...
You don't remember but back in the 60's the SS was just an appearance package, all it was was badging... you could even get a 6 cyl. with a powerglide...
I have a REAL SS El Camino. but it is not as it was built, when new GM saw fit to put in a 305V8 in it with a 3 speed automatic...now it has a 350 bored 30 over with a 700R4 transmission, so is my El Camino A Poser?.
Have you ever heard of a Clone? There are many muscle cars running around today that started out as grocery getters, but people are now building them into look alike Muscle cars. Even Hot Rod Magazine did an article on how to make a ss396 out of a plain Malibu... If they can do it so can we...
PS Your little poser coment made me think of the movie "Wild Hogs" when the Biker guy called Tim allen and his buddies "Posers" yet when the real biker guy shows up , the one they all thought was the ultimate example of a biker, He said that They were the posers not Tim Allen and his buddies..) I have never in my 54 years ever heard anyone use the term POSER in reference to a car until you did.

I saw Wild Hogs recently, funny movie. Maybe that is where "poser" come to mind. They were definatly "posers" for a 4 man suburban Harley "gang". And the "gang" they ran into were definaly "posers" for a real gang. Funny movie, gave me a good laugh. Guess posers can be good for a chuckle at times.
You don't have a Chevy HHR SS, You have an HHR you put SS badges on it. Plain and simple. You are only fooling yourself and those that otherwise don't know about the HHR and don't really care either. If I look up your HHR on KBB, or NADA, or anything for that matter. Will I find a listing for an SS? Nope. Cause they were not made. You take a 1969 Chevelle and add everything that 454 SS had on it, will that make it an 1969 454 SS? Nope, it's a fake. Any true fan will know.

But, You are right, like I have said, I like the way it looks, and if anyone asks me I will tell them it isn't a real SS. I am not trying to fool myself or anyone else. all they have to do is ask... that is why in my Signature I have the SS in Quotes...
I have seen plenty of Fake SS cars Camaros, Chevelles etc, and if you didn't know the VIN sequence for a true SS you would never know it was a Fake...they were that good... and for that you would on the older ones have to get under the hood and see the VIN plate... There are more 69 Z-28 Camaros on the street now that Chevy actually made. and how about those new Chinese Camaro and mustang bodies that are out there? When the professionals are building them now, and putting all the emblems on them. and showing them I bet 75% of the people will never know they are fake.
pssst. there was never a 454 69 Chevelle, the 454 did not come out till 1970...

psst, why do you think I said 1969......
Older cars are easy, numbers matching, RPO codes, etc. If you don't know what you are looking at I would hope you would find someone that does. If not, you don't need to be messing with older cars. If you find a 4lug 1965 Mustang with a 289 in it, guess what, it's not original....

psss, I thought you said 69 because that IS what you said, I guess you are not a true fan if you don't know even that little bit of info...

one question, If you make any mods to a real SS does that mean it is not real SS any more?
tell me now how many people have all that stuff memorized anyway, and unless someone SHOWs you the Origonal Paperwork and VIN number You still won't know for sure if it is an exact copy I am talking not about Buying one I am just talking about seeing one on the street, just like my HHR is seen on the street....now in 30 years if the HHR becomes a classic then I will worry about it, until then it's just another Chevy...

If you are going to "quote" and try and insult at the same time, be sure to read it first.
Correct, you take a 1969 Chevelle and add 454 SS parts..... I never said take 69 454 parts. In 1969 you could only get a SS with a 396 and also the last year for the Muncie. I could go over more info on the years if you like. Like how to tell the fake from the real. The VIN is useless until 1972 to see if's a real SS (when motor option was added).

I am sorry for misunderstanding what you meant. reading this is not like being able to ask face to face what you mean by that statement...
When does a debate turn to insulting?
When someone sticks a badge on their car to create a phantom trim package that was never offered in that model year
Look, I really don't care what people stick on their cars to make them happy. I'd rather have a designation that reflects a true performance package, like the old Camaro Z28, Beretta Z26, Cavalier Z24, Lumina/Monte Carlo Z34, and Corvette ZR1/ZO6.
I wonder what the RPO code for the HHR SS is going to be?
