Looking at buying 09SS

Hello everyone. Been many years since I’ve been on the forum, sold my 07 LT a long while ago. Anyway, been looking around for an SS for some time. Looking for advice when I go to look at & test drive. Any help or answers are appreciated!
I’ve looked through a lot of the threads concerning the turbos & related issues, but I’m left wondering how everyone’s turbos are holding up over 70k miles?
Is there anything other than usual wear & tear to be concerned about with the DI system? Are these seeing excessive carbon buildup?

Welcome back. Stock k04 is a very good and durable part. If you keep it at factory boost settings without a tune it might last a long time. Of course it depends on how well po took care of the car. All DI engines are known for intake valves carbon build up. So at some point you will have to deal with it.

120,000 miles, turbo is doing fine. I had a problem with gunk on the valves. Shell blasted them clean and built catch cans, should be good to go now.

Title says Looking at buying 09SS. Have you got one picked out already ? Or, are limiting your choice to that 1 year only ?

Fwiw. No issues with my 2010 SS. But it only has 53k miles on it.

I’ve located an 09 SS with 76k miles clocked. They’re hard to find around here, especially ones that don’t appear to be abused.

Im also aware of the DI concerns, as I currently own an EcoBoost ford vehicle.

I have 160k on my SS. Was tuned by ZZP 45k ago and the engine has not missed a beat. I change the oil and filter regularly. I have replaced most of the suspension including struts and shocks but only the struts really needed it. Wheel bearings went out but they are a cheap and easy repair. Car has been nothing but fantastic. I drive over 30k a year for work. Took the intake off the turbo last night and there were no signs of excessive wear or any shaft play.

My 08 SS . GM tune has just over 40,000 miles on it. I may sell soon and get an XT5, but it's hard to get rid of a car that looks and runs like new.
