Question Oil Changes and Oil Monitor system

I got my HHR SS back in July and the Oil Monitor say I have at 2200 miles 71% oil life. This is the first vehicle that I've owned with this system. I know I will always run Mobil 1 Syn like the manufacture recommends. I run it in all my vehicles anyways. Now are they still doing the every 3000 miles or is it now 6000 miles. On the LS1 I went 5000 miles because of how the oil itself works and purpose of syn oil. Never had a problem in my other vehicles.

What are you guys looking at? Mileage of Oil Life Monitor?

I know Im going to see a lot of 3000 miles and thats the way it is post here. Engines are different these days so I assume a lot of people know that oil can go longer.

I did mine at 5000. The estimator was still at 55% There's plenty of oil change threads around here, and very few people see every 3K as anything but a money scam. BTW this is the easiest car ever to do an oil job on, and the cleanest.

I do mine at 3k. But I have taken a class on the Oil life system and its supposed to be pretty accurate.

I can see why anyone would question the OLM. I have always changed oil in all my vehicles at 3,000 miles. In some cases the OLM in my HHRs is going past 12,000 and still not at 0%! That's just goes against my better judgement, but like someone said, If GM is willing to back these things up with a 100,000 mile warranty....

Just make sure you run the Mobil 1 or equivalent in the SS.

The engineers at GM are pretty smart, and the OLM is too....Not following it is just an emotional reaction...nothing else...

I changed mine at 5500 miles the first time and life monitor said I had 52% left at that time. I only changed it then because of the car being new. I switched to Mobile 1 and plan to follow the DIC recommendation in the future. GM put a lot of time, knowledge and money into the DIC, I think they know what they are doing.

Ya, it's a lil tough to look/listen to the OLM when some/a lot of us used to be the 3-4-5K oil change kinda people, but like was said GM and it's OLM has got it done pretty well .

As a recent convert , i still short probably good oil life and do a oil change at prob 25% or so. With the price of oil/syn oil, that makes it a lil easier to work off the OLM nowadays.

And being one who puts on 600+ miles a week on whatever i drive, it's a lot nicer now to go with the OLM instead of changing oil (in my prev driver, a '03 Silverado) every 4-5 weeks(3K or lil more)Not to mention the ecology part of it also.
