I loved the reviews/reports... and I can`t wait to test drive the one my dealer is ordering with me in mind.
Should be fully loaded but automatic, I would love a no-lift stick, but stop and go traffic is murder on the feet.

Anyone else see that a couple of these reviews refer to a Brembo Brake upgrade? The reviews seem to suggest that this may be a part of the LSD option.

Maybe I missed this in earlier information about the SS but I sure don't remember anything about Brembo brakes.

Nice to have an unexpected option surprise... especially after waiting for this thing to arrive for so long!

Edmunds; The SS's four-wheel disc brakes are pretty reasonable, but a Brembo brake package will be offered as an option sometime in the spring of 2008, which brings larger front rotors and calipers.

Auto blog; The limited slip differential was a very welcome addition, and after a few hot laps, the optional Brembo brake package proved that it is indeed worth whatever extra GM decides to charge for it.
Popular mechanics That may be less of an issue if you opt for the 12.4-in. Brembo big brake package in early 2008. Also included in that package will be a limited slip differential—worth every penny in our book.

It would appear the not even the reporters / test drivers have the same story, and GM keeps the rest of us in the dark as usual. It was mentioned on one of the threads here that the 5 speed is only available with LSD at this time so the Pop Mech guy is misleading at best. I would guess that the Brembo package (which will include LSD) will be available as an option in the new year. Only God and GM know for sure.

Of note is from the Pop. Mechanic article:

Speaking of forward thrust, the HHR SS has plenty of it. Drop the clutch on a manual SS and the 260 lb.-ft of torque will burn the front tires into a white haze. Torque steer, however, is virtually non-existent.
hmmmm. Now that's the first mention I've heard that torque steer doesn't seem to be an issue. This is very good news!
