Yes the gas cap was the first thing I swapped.
Is that the one at the front of the car? Or near the rear axle?
I swapped the part at the front of the engine. And went to swap this guy and noticed it was not clicked in all the way!
Would this cause the "check gas cap" code by not being inserted and locked in? I barely touched it and it almost came out. I'm assuming it has some pressure?
Ok and sorry for all the questions but when you say a sleeve, is that an extra part that slides into the left of the picture (the bigger unit)? Any pic by chance? I will take it off and get a picture pointing into the bigger unit when I get home tonight.
The thingie on the rear top of the engine is the EVAP purge valve. The thingie under the car is the EVAP vent valve. The usually try to confuse you by adding "charcoal canister" and/or
"solenoid" to the names of both, and the dyslexic among us stop reading after "EVAP charcoal canister". The larger black thingie next to the gas tank is the charcoal canister.
The purpose of the PURGE is to suck gasoline fumes into the intake manifold to be burned. The purpose of the VENT is to admit metered air into the tank so that fuel can be sucked out in sealed tank, and to let air out when you fill the sealed tank. The purpose of the charcoal canister is to store the gasoline fumes until the purge valve opens, to purge it.
I had a "solvent" sort of odor when my flex pipe was cracked.

The "check gas cap" usually really does means the gas cap is loose or not sealing fully. Always turn it 3 clicks past tight (like the instruction on it state). Clean the mating surface of the filler tube.
