Did you replace the gas cap? The EVAP vent valve has a sleeve gasket on the tube that slides into the canister , it’s on the left side of the black cylinder, make sure it’s clean and seated firmly into place.
a compression test will indicate several problems if present. Post the numbers here for each cylinder

For us to chase fumes we can't smell is akin to finding the source of that noise you can't quite explain.
In reality you are trying to grasp oil in your fist.

Yes the gas cap was the first thing I swapped.

Is that the one at the front of the car? Or near the rear axle?

I will get a compression test as soon as i can.

Would this cause the "check gas cap" code by not being inserted and locked in? I barely touched it and it almost came out. I'm assuming it has some pressure?

I clicked it in hoping this solves it.

Is there anything else I should check down here?

How fast should the code clear itself if it's

this photo you post, the valve under the car

Ok and sorry for all the questions but when you say a sleeve, is that an extra part that slides into the left of the picture (the bigger unit)? Any pic by chance? I will take it off and get a picture pointing into the bigger unit when I get home tonight.

The thingie on the rear top of the engine is the EVAP purge valve. The thingie under the car is the EVAP vent valve. The usually try to confuse you by adding "charcoal canister" and/or
"solenoid" to the names of both, and the dyslexic among us stop reading after "EVAP charcoal canister". The larger black thingie next to the gas tank is the charcoal canister.

The purpose of the PURGE is to suck gasoline fumes into the intake manifold to be burned. The purpose of the VENT is to admit metered air into the tank so that fuel can be sucked out in sealed tank, and to let air out when you fill the sealed tank. The purpose of the charcoal canister is to store the gasoline fumes until the purge valve opens, to purge it.

I had a "solvent" sort of odor when my flex pipe was cracked.

Don't try to get smogged when the CEL is on.
The "check gas cap" usually really does means the gas cap is loose or not sealing fully. Always turn it 3 clicks past tight (like the instruction on it state). Clean the mating surface of the filler tube.

I can see the sleeve seal is in place see that blue stripe where the left side goes into the canister , that’s the seal. Just push it in firmly.

Compression test is easy to do. You can get a loaner from the auto parts store or buy it cheap at harbor freight.

The circled blue bits have seals that are easily malformed on installation. C marks the canister, V marks the vent.

I swapped the part out just now (only thrown $100 at it so far, not exactly a big deal)

I don't see any seals...or gaskets.
