R.I.P. Turbo
your story is why i laugh when people talk about warranty. i was one of the first few people with a cracked ic pipe. gm didn't know what was going on. i found the leak. i was told that there were NO ic piping available and it was not known when or if they would have it. i demanded they pull another ss off the sales line and take the pipe from that car or give me a damn cobalt ss. the service manager tells me he didn't understand why gm would use plastic for a part that's under pressure like that. he said aluminum would be better. i then said hahn raecraft will be coming out with a piping kit and i would get it. he agreed it would be best. this was a year ago.
if i were you,i would say give me another ss!!! find one somewhere at another dealer and take the turbo from that. otherwise, you are better off oing with an aftermarket turbo. seems like the aftermarket stuff holds up better on the car than factory/gm lol
gm tune<any tune
stock ic and ic piping<any after market
stock turbo???

My front struts blew apart @ 4K miles and it took GM 4 weeks to get them replaced... amazing! I looked on the Garrett site last night, and sort of stuck out. Do you know of any aftermarket units that will fit it?
Running on week #2 of the loaner car and ZERO clues to the ETA for the new turbo! The Dealer is totally stumped... Even the GM Parts Reps that they deal with are stumped, so they have no idea when I'll ever get my car back. I might call GM Customer Service, but they arent going to do much I would think... this is amazing!
I feel for you. This is what scares me. I thought I had a blown turbo a few weeks ago. The car threw a code went into limp mode and when I let off the gas the turbo made a scrapping sound. I let it cool down and the next start it went away. It even had a visit to the dealer and they found nothing. I love this car but what's going to happen when these cars are no longer in production. If it's this difficult now to get parts you can only assume it will be worst a year or 2 down the road. As least now you can get to a point where you can demand to take the part off a new one in the lot.
That is one of the reason I went with a 5 year bumber to bumber extended warranty. It was only 15 bucks a month and it covers almost everything with the except of the brakes, rotor's, wiperblades (wear and tear parts). I called GM to make sure they would honor the warranty before I bought it because it wasn't from them. My issurance actually went down almost 100 dollars a year which almost covers the cost of the warranty...go figure. The parts are going to be alot more expensive then a regular HHR. It's just a hunch but I don't think they will be making many more HHR SS.
I also opted for the GMPP 100,000 mile extended coverage and I am very glad I did. At least if the part is not available they have to supply you with temp replacement car. From the looks of it having cash in hand won't find the part(s) quickly.

I assume the insurance is to cover you when the bums try to sue!
How many more they make is not an issue as they will be required to carry parts to repair them for the forseeable future.
The Issue at hand I would guess is a by product of the Chapter 11. Many vendors were not shipping to GM till they cleared the filing as they did not want to be owed money by GM before they filed. many who were owned money got burned.
Now that they are cleared things will get back to normal.
I have had many companies I sell have money issues right now and I see that many more will have problems in the future. The Economy has a long way to go yet.
As for the new GM they are solvent and will have parts for our vehicles.

"redface" the motor dropped power like it was running out of gas, then sputtered and then the bearing spun. I have enough years in dyno rooms to know the sound. Keep an eye /ear on your turbo buddy!
Warranty wise the Turbo is covered 100% for 100,000 miles ... it's part of the powertrain which is included in the price of your car.
Your damn right it's becasue they went chapter 11 and shafted the supplier base to the point where parts are COD becasue GM purchasing likes to pay 100+ days past invoice and that dosent work for people trying to keep the lights on. I work for a supplier in the city and know the drill only too well. The parts have to be built for 10 years minimum, thats the law...
I am going to waste an hour tomorrow with GM customer service and were gonna "chat"
