Regular seat/Performance seat
Hyper, I'm not sure if you're responding to me. If so, my point is simply that the slight difference and price between the Standard and Performance seats for the SS model wasn't worth the confusion that now exists. Some don't have Performance seats, some have one, some have both, some have armrests, some don't...it's silly. The Recaro option on the CTS is quite different. That's a true racing seat.
The comment about "doing your homework" is a little condescending. I knew about Performance seats, even if I was initially unaware that my car came with them. My comment was focused on GM's thinking, not my own.

GM did not add one seat standard till they raised the price and the second on the next price hike. I see a pattern. They added a few other small option too I recall.
GM did show the first SS with both seats so early on they intended to offer both as the prototype had it. Many of the press photo's will bear this out.
My point in the small car class the profits are small and compitition is high. You remove enough small options they add up. I mean if the Camaro people had to weight the cost of the smell in the leather seats they are splitting hairs in todays market. GM may have only been able to get so many the first year to from the supplier.
This whole thing has just gotten a little silly over just a seat that has a little larger cushion. I hope you can agree with that
It was not a large option in the first year so most just did not have it. If anyone wants it now they can add it as it is not hard. Lets just leave it at that.
That reminds me I need to dig out the box with my old seat to get the cover part number posted. WHo ever wanted it I did not forget as it is in my attic.
My solution....sell the "performance seats" ( yes, I had 2 ), and install something more supportive, that had more range of usable motion, and do it in such a way that my head wasn't rubbing the headliner all the time. I can actually see traffic lights now.

Thanks for the clarification, Hyper. Peace and love and unicorns. ;-)
Good solution, Az. The seats are OK, but they're certainly not what I would call "performance". The '06 Civic I traded had much more supportive seats than any HHR or Cobalt I've seen.

Also with Americans they are in so many sizes unless they are adjustable they can be a problem for some to fit in.
I worry the performance seat in the SS will show a lot of damage to the out side bolster. I am 5/11 and getting out I still drag a little when I step over the rocker. Not a lot of people over six foot drive these due to head room so I figure many other drag even more with shorter legs.
My Old SSEI had good seats. one button would bring in the side support electronically. You could wrap yourselve in those seats no matter the size.
I had some Mitsubishi Conquest seats in an old S-10 I once owned, and I loved them. They had adjustable thigh height, side bolsters, and lumbar. I could get the perfect fit with them. The Corbeau seats I put in are a vast improvement over the stock seats. I don't worry too much about wear on them even though I'm 6' because they have the wear patches that seem sturdy.
Sounds as if you just had a poor dealer and you went in very unprepared
Order pulled three times? Sounds like you needed to do your homework as badly as youre dealer.
The web site I listed above was available then as it is now with every RPO option and product update. It is not real hard to find with Google.
As for you stop building SS after April 08? What do you mean just a short time they stopped? Must have not stopped too long as many here have May and June builds including mine. The 09 did not start till July.
Most dealer do not operate this way. My salesman knew what I wanted and knew all about the SS. Their service deparment has a tech that does all the Turbo work and knows the Cobalt, HHR and Truck turbo's inside out. He even owns one himself. It is a medium size dealer but it is run as it should be.
Many dealers suffer from uninformed sales staff as sales for many are revolving doors. But the people who order the cars have the info and know what they are ordering for inventory. They just don't dart board this stuff.
All I am saying they choose cars for the lot that they look at what people want and the options that are often asked for. Seat options in other cars has never been a automatic must have and in 08 was not seen to be that important by many. I am sure most were trying to keep the price down as there were not many options on the SS but many that were not ordered with the extras.
The same goes for Color. GM build most of them Black and Red as that is what most aske for. GM sets Patterns to help move cars.
With the way information is available there is no reason why anyone would have to go to the dealer uninformed and unprepared. With the ease of getting info today you could and should have been able to walk into the dealer with every RPO cose you wanted.
Seat options are nothing new the TA had many years with Recaro options but few were ever purchased. In 08 I would see the dealer not think it as being important also the idea of two different front seats may or could kill a sale. It did look odd if you noticed it. Once the second seat came around it made more sense.

While this was going on I received a phone call from a gentleman from up north wherever these cars are actually put together. He basically was calling to appologize and let me know that my car was on its way, and that dearship was going to be delt with. Very BAD sale. He then explained that I had bought one of the first rounds of these HHR's, (bought Mid March, received Late April) and that they did not sale many (at first). The car was pulled from production I believe around Dec.ish till April one. If numbers did not pick up for this vehicle, it was to end then. I guess sales picked up. This is when he explained that if this vehicle had been orded after Arpril 1st 08' (plus mistakes), it would have been denied.
Thanks for the info guy; I do apprt. Homework is a good thing for sure; that goes for dealer too I guess.

Got to be honest. I had the dealer print out the options for me along with some internet reading. I admit, I don't have the list your referring too. I also cannot seem to navigate the web page you gave me. I only can go two pages into it then there is nothing to click on?? However, I have a best friend that just recently left GM. Kinda high in the rankings at Caddy dealer ship (Closed because of Katrina). He kinda warned me about them. After going talk to these fricken people (dealer I bought from), I should have gone with my gut feeling when the first guy never heard of such a car. "My bad, shame on me." I had the money and the want, so I told them EXACTlY what I wanted. I did all the paper work then ordered. Right after I made the order, I get a phone call from the manager there explaining that the salesman 'f'ed' up. I could not get the interest rate that he quoted me bacause the car was being built from ground up since they could not find one anywhere with my specs. I could only get the interest rate (or deal) that was going on when the car got at the dealer. Told them fine, just order the damn car (gamble later). After sitting down with them and telling them eveything I wanted, I get a phone call later asking me do I want LSD installed. I told the that I wanted that in the first place. Knucklehead sales person cancelled it because that goes in a 4wd car??????WTF Car was pulled of line, returned for correct tranny. Then, another call a day later--"Did you tell me that you wanted the better stereo. Ok, obviously this guys was deaf, blind, and retarded. Right before date car is to be delivered, the manifest comes in with all specs. pricing etc. I notice no pillar airbags. I was like WTF is going. At this time, the car was to far in production. They tried pulling it AGAIN an it was denied. So, I received and accepted the car without the airbags. Long story long.!!

Many of the dealers GM would like to close are ones like this as no matter how good of a job GM does the dealer is the one that leaves the lasting impression.
I had a dealer that had a Malibu LTZ for a advetised price that was too good to believe. Well I get there and they would not sell it at that price. Well I don't take kindly to lies and ignorence when I spend that kind of money. I trew thew news add on the table and walked out.
An hour later I found a car just like the other fron the dealer I bouth My HHR from. It only lacked a sunroof but the car is for my Mom to drive and she did not want that anyway. I walked out with a car over $7000 off sticker. The other guys best deal wos $2,000 when he advetised $7,000 off sticker.
Lifes too short to deal with a bad salesman or dealer. There are enough good ones that should be supported.
Sorry you had so much hassle there.
Play around with that web site. You need to click on the sybol of the make you want year and there is a drop down menu on the top right. It already has all the RPO codes for some of the 2011 models the GM will not build till Oct like the Buick Regal. I would guess few Buick dealers even have this info yet.
It is a great tool and you will never miss a thing if you go to buy another GM product. I even made copied to keep with my cars as a futre reference if someone wants a list of all the options and spec. They even have a weight calcutator there to see how much the vehicle will be with the option you choose.
My be buying a GMC or Nox this year and I already have the options written down on what we want. I have driven the cars and have a good idea what I want to pay. Dealers are not dealing on them now because they are in short supply on the 2010. By fall that will change and the dealers will come.
