Roof rails question

The SS I'm looking at has all the right options for me except it has the luggage carrier roof rails. I doubt I will ever use them (I have a truck for hauling stuff), and most people agree that they detract from the SS look.

Is there any way to remove the racks without leaving holes in the roof sheet metal? Are the crossbars at least removable like on my truck?

BTW - with a wagon like the HHR, with fold down seats and gobs of storage area, why would anyone need these roof rails? I guess if you had a family of five going on a long trip......

Crossbars do not come with the roof rack. Just the two side rails are included with the roof rack. I suspect that there would be holes in the metal where they are mounded, but plugs would take care of those. Or if you took it to a body shop they could probly fill them in. I have the roof rack, and I like the way it looks. I will probly buy the crossbars later though since I will need them when I do some long distance travel this winter. Plus, I will probably be getting a ski rack for the roof for ski season.

I have the rails and crossbars on mine. The crossbars do come out pretty quickly, though I usually just leave mine on.

Interesting that you have the cross rails and someone else does not....

I bought them separately. They aren't included in the $150 roof rail factory option.

I personally like the HHR w/o the rails . . . plus I felt the teo antennas would get in the way of carrying anything long . . . and like you I have a Silverado to haul big stuff.
