I doubt it would trap the heat by lining the hood, but again this would probably be something we would need to see in a wind tunnel to see how the air flows past the engine bay. I also seriously doubt any hood for any car would cause any more heat soak, while driving, then the engine already produces. Now if your standing still and want to cool the system then just open the hood. Also Intercoolers don't work harder as all they are only big radiators. No mechanical parts and since they sit before the entire engine bay they also will have zero effect from heat soak as long as the car is not sitting still.

Some people spray the intercooler with alcohol and another common method is Nitrous which works really well. Water will work but not to the degree of the others. Ive seen people at race tracks spary the Intercooler with Alcohol in a spray bottle before each pass. A really big new front mount intercooler will even make a big difference. Im sure theyll be on the market for the SS soon if not already.

I believe the hoodliner weighs 3# at the most, its just a piece of fiberglass insulation, so I'll just skip lunch to make up for it. :)

Good point. I was thinking in terms of the Dynamat-style hood liner products... butyl rubber and tar paper layering, not the fuzzy fiberglass one that GM has been stuffing under hoods for decades. I guess this means I can have another snack as well.

Does anyone know that the GM hoodliner is made so that if there is an engine fire, the tabs quickly melt off, and the therory is, that the hoodliner will fall off the hood and help to smother the fire out? Just a tidbit I thought I would add to this thread.

I have what maybe a stupid qestion is that hoodliner listed under SS parts. When I was at the dealership asking about a part they wanted my VIN to make sure they had the right part #.

before I pulled in the garage, I let the SS sit in the driveway in D, and watched the temp in the DIC. went up to 210 degrees and the fan came on, the temp just stayed there, did not drop. but at least it came on at 210, if I remember correctly , my SSR fan did not come on til about 220 or 226, (can't remember), ended up getting an aux fan for that , which worked great.
further testing is needed......

No, and not under your VIN either. They will actually have to go old school and look it up. These days you enter the VIN and the system knows how your car was built and looks up the correct part number. Well, most of the time.
