I just did my first yesterday. Way easy. Got a 1-1/4 socket from Advance. I used a crescent wrench on the drain plug. I didn't neet the U-joint socked adapter. I did have to put the socket on the cap by itself then feed the extender straight down into it. Easiest change ever. Pulling a filter up and out is so much cleaner then oil running down your arm from underneath.

Had to RTFM to reset the life calculator, which after today's 375 mile 76 mph average spped trip is now down to 98%

See the hypermilling section for tahe rest of the story.

I bought a 32mm 6 point 1/2" drive socket made by AmPro at Advance Auto Parts yesterday for $2.89. It was on sale for 50% off.

They had this special a few months ago, but did not have the Mobil 1 filters for the SS. They substituted a purilater PurOne. Not sure about the quality of the OurOne?

Tidbits...

Pure One is made by Arvin Meritor. They make (at least) the following brands according to bobistheoilguy.com.

Purolator premium plus (nitrile adbv)
Purolator Pure One (silicone adbv, different media)
Havoline
Maxlife Valvoline (some)
Group7
Promotive
Powerflow
Quaker State (less media)
Advanced Auto Total Grip. (less media)
Pep Boys Pro Line
MotorCraft
Superflo

stranger, what new cap? Went to the website on the link and only saw the dealership add.

XXL, any idea what the difference between the nitrile and silicon filter are on the Pur One?

And what the heck is "adbv"?

ADBV = Anti-drain back valve.

Nitrile is less resilient to heat-cool cycles than silicon, and so will tend to become brittle over time. Probably nothing to worry about given the timeframe of a 10-15k oil change, IMO.

adbv

adbv= anti-drain back valve, essentially a one way valve so filtered oil doen't mix with unfiltered oil. Silicone is a better material for this as it is more heat tolerant and doesn't stiffen over time and heat exposure, while nitrile can which can decrease oil pressure.
