Theme from an imaginary Western...er, vehicle

If you are not old enough to get the reference, it's a song from the rock n' roll group Mountain.

Having test driven the SS, I have decided not to get one, since the 2LT is adequate for my limited purposes. However, I am still speculating about what I would do if I wanted an SS after all. Which one to get, and how to modify it. What I loved the most compared to the 2LT was actually the F35 transmission. Without question I'd get the manual and insist on the LSD. However, the shift throw is already 30% shorter than the non-SS Getrag, so I wouldn't get the TWM short shifter. If separately available, I would consider a weighted shift knob. Does that exist?

I would like the sunroof.

I really enjoy the heated seats on my 2LT. The suede on the SS feels good enough that I wouldn't miss the leather. Has anyone put heated seats in an SS, and managed to find a way to use the factory switching to run it? I am used to the arm rests, but since I have to move them each time I put on my safety belt, I wouldn't really want to put any back on. I do believe there is a conversion that works best with the automatic transmission.

Another decision is 2008 vs 2009/10. For the SS, both versions had StabiliTrack stability control (other than 2LT, it wasn't available in 2008). Brembos were not available until 2009, but I don't think they matter that much to me (and are more expensive to repair). The big brake difference, to me, is all disc brakes. The 2009/10 has the better dome light setup, though there is supposedly no switch to turn it off. All have window switches in the doors, which is a nice touch. I actually think I prefer not to have the big information screen they added in 2009. From the looks of it, it also subtracts the 2nd storage bin on top of the dash board.

I would use most of my other modifications, the Muth signal/heated/spotter mirrors, IPCW LED tail lights, Fiamm horns. The front sway bar is bigger on an SS, and there is mention of a rear sway bar. Is this a real rear sway bar, or that funny thing in the middle of the car that doesn't really do the job? Of course, an add-on lower billet grille wouldn't be needed.

Why would you want to get heated seats in Texas?

To keep his butt warm, silly. Being a ole Texas boy myself[now in Cali.], I can atest to the fact that it does get rather chilly during the winter, in Ta-hos. Get chilly even out here on the left coast during winter.

The RPD may replace the storage bin, but it offers the ability to monitor a multitude of engine and vehicle parameters, and you can still use a stock boost gauge in the pillar, because the wiring is there. Also, to get the LSD, you have to get the Brembos. I don't know of a weighted knob for the stock shifter, but that doesn't mean there isn't one. I doubt it though, because the stock knob is held on by a screw under the shift pattern on the top of the knob. As far as the rear goes, you'll still want a TTR bar. The sunroof takes up about 2" of headroom, and when open, buffets if a window isn't down a little bit. That being said, I still love my sunroof though.

I hope this helps.

A few more than an Aeroforce, but it won't cycle through multiple inputs like the Aeroforce will.

Nope, it won't read or clear codes. I had a dual Aeroforce setup and didn't care for them. I opted for a dashdaq that will do everything the Aeroforce will and more, and you can customize the skins to show a classic dial gauge setup.
