Well, I own a T-Shirt that says, "If you ever see my hot-rod on a trailer, call the cops it's been stolen!" But, I had no choice because we moved from Florida to Tennessee. So in the Intrest of anyone having to trailer their baby, here is how I did it.

The SS has a nice low air dam and front fascia, so I had no choice but to back the car on the trailer, as the front wheel chocks would have ripped the air-dam clean off. There seemed to be some other benifits of backing the car on. First off, I felt more comfortable strapping the rear-tires down, versus the front where all the DT is. I also felt better with the main chains being in the back as well. I will say though that it looked a little weird driving up on it, trailered back-wards.

Pulling the car off wasn't too bad either, it only took one 2x6 chock at5 the bottom of the ramps to keep the front from scrapping.

Personal note: If I ever have to drive a packed truck and tow a car ever again----- It will be too soon! It was quite humbling, as I usually do the passing!

I didn't have to move, but had to to do something just as bad. I had to tow my old Colorado home from Mobile about amonth ago, and the cheapest way to get it back to North Ala was to rent a U-Haul, and a auto transport, needless to say it was long ride, I hope I never have to that again.

 

Since it seems I will be moving to KY in the next year or so, I told the Boy that I will NOT be driving my car there from SoCal -- I had thought of doing this too, putting it on a trailer behind the U Haul. However, since I gotta move (little) animals too, I think it will be worth it to pay to have it shipped to Louisville instead and not have to worry about it.

I don't think I'll mind moving the SS ( when the time comes ), it's the 3 fish tanks ( the biggest is a 180 gallon ) and the 5 monster fish I worry about.

 

Thanks for the positive replies! The move went smoothly with Wife, 2yr old, 2 ferrets, and a dog!

BTW There are a ton of Hot Rods here in Knoxville, and at last look on my GPS there are over 30 race tracks of some sort or another within 100 miles, and a speed shop less than a mile from the house.....please, please, please have a mandrel bender.

 

Becareful to anyone trying to trailer a car backwards.

He had a lite car with a heavy tow truck. If you are using a light pick up it can cause problems in balance and get you into a crash. I saw it happen once.

You want the weight to the front of the trailer so it will not unload the rear of the tow vehicle.

A buddy lost a 1/2 ton pick up this way and the trailer. the car was junk so no loss there.

Just something people don't think about.

 

Moved my dad from Missouri to Michigan a few years back. U-Haul had a brand new Diesel International truck, and a clapped out GMC gas. My mother did not want to drive behind the diesel, so we got the GMC, put my dad's car on the trailer, and proceeded to do 54 mph all the way back. Entering the freeway was the worst, it would take about 2 miles for that POS to reach top speed.
