Value of used SS/warranty

Anyone have an opinion on the value of the remaining warranty on a lower mileage car with some remaining warranty or a slightly higher mileage with little or no remaining warranty? More directly, the difference in value between an SS with 20K miles vs 30K miles, assuming same model year and similar condition. I'm really struggling to decide whether to purchase the one SS available locally (which I really like but is priced pretty high for me) or enduring the hassle of traveling half way across the country to buy one that's a bit less expensive but higher in mileage.

As an aside, I can't believe how much asking prices have gone up since I started looking in the Fall of 2010. Back then I was looking at '08s and '09s listed between $14K and $16k with 20k-25K miles. Now it seems '09s and '10s with similar mileage are starting at about $19K. That's a pretty dramatic increase! Good for you guys who already have one. Not so much when you're trying to buy!

Since the last SS model was 2010, then most(08's 09's also) have reached the 36 month time frame or are getting close. Low mileage wouldn't matter if the basic warranty is up time wise.
Now the 5 year/100k mile powertrain would be another matter.

I would try and purchase one that is Gm Certified if possible
which would give it a 12month / 12000 mile Bumper to bumper warranty
I bought mine that way and have had no problem getting things taken care of.

exactly which ones are you looking at
is one at a toyota dealer in New Rochelle NY?
Try Cars.com if you have not yet

Best bet is to look up used prices on KBB and that will give you an idea. Some vehicles sell in some parts of the country better than others. If it's a private seller or a dealership, etc.

But it basically boils down to what you are willing to pay. Is the cost of a trip worth the savings...... What if it's not "as described".....

In this case I'm looking at having bumper to bumper for another 17,000 miles or until next October vs having it a for just a few thousand miles or a couple months.

Even if I figure in travel costs and value the additional warranty time at $600-700, I'd still be spending about $1600 more to buy locally. But, it would save a whole pile of hassle. For better or worse, I'm one of those folks who'll over think this to death!

I'm a little confused on your time frame. What year car are you talking about? The 36 month bumper to bumper starts when the car was first purchased new. Next Oct. would be 2013, so this car was sold for the first time in Oct.2010? If so, it would be one of the last one's sold off a dealers lot.
Mine is a 2010 SS and the 36 months will be up in Jan.2013. With only 25k miles, I'll hit the 36 month mark first.
You can correct me if needed. Just want to make sure you have your warranty and time frame right.

You're correct. The car was sold 10/16/2010. Has just over 18,000 miles, and I just bought it! I'm pretty sure that there's another forum member from western New York who bought a 2010 SS late in 2011 with only a few hundred miles on it! Not sure if his was sold as new or used so I don't know when his warranty clock started.

Forum member ChevyCustomerService was kind enough to check the warranty status for me, so I knew up front what the situation was.
