Also, read the ingredients on your bug and tar remover. Item #1 is "white spirit" ... which is another name for mineral spirits. The dipentene (which makes up less than 10% of the ingredients) is a form of turpentine.

BTW, the "a shine is left" is also true of my method. Shine is not a function of wax, per se... the paint itself shines... my suggestion of reapplying wax to the area would be equally true in your case.
I should have asked my hotel if they could loan me a 500 foot extension cord and a hair dryer.
