Well 300 miles and I tested the Airbag

I was coming home tonght and had a guy turn infront of me and force me off the road.

I almost made it into the side road but hit the gravel and went into a ditch and embankment.

When I hit the embankment it was not a hard stop but enought to set of the airbag. I am only hurt from the bag. Brused and burned.

The truck started but died so I think the fuel cut off was set off.

At this point it is hard to asses all that was hurt. I know I will need a whole new front bumper and supports and fog lights.

I also will need a rear bumper as it was drug under when they pulled it out.

The hood, grill doors and fenders look ok. It was not leaking anything and I was not able to tell if the inner cooler was hurt.

this was not good but I walked away and the chassis did not look tweeked so I think with two bumpers and related parts I should be ok. It looked a lot worse than it was. Oh and one air bag.

I will know in a few days what all it will need.

The other guy I assume will be cited as the State trooper was writing him up as I left. I was luck you have a good number of witnesses that told the cop all he needed to know.

Foilks this is a bummer but if you walk away that is what is important. Man made this thing and man can repair it.

But you only have one life so if you have that you have everything.

Now that is not to say I would not have been upset if he lost something other than a fine and a Insurance claim. But it is what it is.

I know the shock of this will set in in about an hour of two so I think I will take it easy.

Oh the air bags work well so don"t test yours. Trust me!

Scott, sorry to here about this accident, so glad you came out okay though! Anything can be replace except you! My husband has been in a few really bad one over the years, and we've learned what really matter most is "life". Good luck with the insurance company, hope they treat you well!

Sorry to hear Scott, glad you're OK! Maybe since it's so new, insurance will let you get another new one instead of taking back yours repaired???

Glad to hear you came out with only a few marks. Better for the bag to deploy when it may not be needed, versus not deploying when absolutely needed. I would be upset as you are, but glad to be in one piece after the incident. And good that there wasn't any critical damage to the SS.

Thanks all!

I am just now getting a little sore the burns are not being to well as well as the the center of the steering wheel hit me.

I wish they would replace it but the reality is that insurance companies seldom will do anything like that due to the extram cost to them.

If they can just replace the bumpers and get it to the shape it was when I picked it up Friday I will be fine.

I just worry about the anything being tweeked or rattles or noises that I did not have.

Also I hope they can remove the air bag stink out of it. That got me out of the car pretty quick.

I did not have On Star activated yet but it went off.

I have some phone shots of it and have to see if I can down load them.

Good to hear you are ok and that no one was hurt. Hope you are able to get the trucklet back in good order without too much effort and frustration with the insurance company.

It is like getting hit by a very hard pillow or knoking on wood in a pillow.

Then spray your arms with battery acid.

I had a similar crash in my Fiero in the 80's where a guy pulled from a drive way and I had nowere to but hit his van. I thit the steering wheel so hard I bent it to the dash. [I did drive it home tough after pulling the wheel out. th radiator did not even break]

In that crash I was very lucky as ate the wheel just under my nose and over my teeth. I had a fat brused lip but was not any worse off.

As I slid off the road I though I am going to be ok. then the bag went off and I though this is not good! Funny what all goes on in you mind in a milli sec.
