Widening steel wheels to fit over brembos?

I was in bed this morning looking for a cheap set of winter wheels and i had an idea. What if i could widen stock steel 16's so they work on our brembos.Does anyone have any opinions on doing this. I can't seem to find wheels for less than 4 to 500 in a 17 or 18. I am thinking in a 16" snow tires are less expensive than 17 or 18 so that might offset the cost of the widening. I going to be making some phone calls today to see if it's worth it cost wise. I have heard spacers on stockers will work so why can't widening them work as well. I know racers have been doing this for years. I am just thinking outside the box.

Thanks

Adam

Way back when, we're talking the 60's and earlier here, widening rims and reversing them was fairly common...but nowadays, you might have to look under lots of rocks to find anybody doing that kind of work.

I think its not an issue of rim width with the Brembo setup anyway, its the ID of the wheels themselves, 16" rims just aren't able to clear the calipers.

There are companies that will cust and widen the wheels but it is not cheap.

It is just as cheap to buy a set of cheap 17" and just be done with it. There are some cheaper larger wheels out there that are off brand. They would be the most economical way to do this.

There are plenty of companies doing that type of work. Probably more than there ever were in the past, with much better results.

One of the more well known are Weldcraft (just do a google search on them) and to widen a steel wheel is very cheap, but in your case you need a bigger diameter, not a wider wheel

Here's the link: http://weldcraftwheels.com/

I was in work when I originally posted before and we have firewalls that won't let me do a lot of stuff, so I couldn't find or post the link
